[edit] Plot
This manga tells the story of the previous Holy War, taking place in the 18th century, 250 years before the original series, in the Saint Seiya universe. The story centers on the relation between Tenma, the Pegasus Saint and his beloved friend, Alone, who would eventually become his greatest enemy, Hades.[1]
[edit] Style
In Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas all saints have the same appareance as the one of the original manga, except the colors, which Shiori Teshirogi uses colors from the anime for most characters, being Aries Sion the only one who has the hair color of the manga.
The style of draw is noted to have bodies with a little more detailed faces and longer arms than the original ones. The comedy of this manga is seen when looking the expression of a character. Shiori Teshirogi has "mixed" the design of some bronze cloths of the manga to the design of some cloths of the anime for the designs of the cloths of Lost Canvas. The earliest example is the first Pegasus Cloth of Tenma.
Sometimes, the author makes a mistake in the chapters published Shōnen Champion, being the earliest example a different star in the face of Hypnos. These mistakes are cleaned in the tankōbon, in which other images are added and files for the new clothes in the manga that have not appeared in the original one.[2][3]
[edit] Characters
Tenma (テンマ Tenma?) is an Italian orphan with of Japanese origins and childhood friend of Alone and Sasha whom he considered siblings. In the story he acts as the main character and becomes the Athena Pegasus Bronze Saint that reincarnates every time there is a war. He fights by Athena's side and wants to defeat Alone to return him to his good side.
Alone (アローン Arōn?, also spelled as "Aaron") is Hades' previous incarnation. He is an Italian orphan raised alongside Sasha and Tenma, who later become arch-enemies. He is the purest soul on earth and believes that everybody has a good side and dissaproves the use of violence, which is why Hades chose to reincarnate in his body. As Hades, he becomes the arch-enemy of his siblings.
Sasha is the previous incarnation of Athena who always appears when evil forces attack Earth; She spent her childhood with Alone and Tenma in a small village in Italy and was later "adopted" by the Sanctuary in Greece, where she becomes the known as Athena.
The twelve Gold Saints are most powerful Saints of Athena. Every one of them has awakened their 7th sense, which allows them to attain the speed of light. Each Gold Saint is also assigned to a temple named after their corresponding signs to protect the Sanctuary.
The specters are the 108 soldiers of Hades. They fight against the Athena Saints during the war and are divided in different ranks depending their strength. Although many specters are killed during the series, most are brought back to life by Hades.
