Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers, released in Japan as Real Bout Garou Densetsu 2: The Newcomers (リアルバウト餓狼伝説2 THE NEWCOMERS Riaru Bauto Garō Densetsu Tsū Za Nyūkamāzu?, "Real Bout Legend of the Hungry Wolf 2") is a 1998 fighting game by SNK for the Neo Geo platform. It is the seventh game in the Fatal Fury series and the third game in the Real Bout sub-series, following Real Bout Fatal Fury and Real Bout Fatal Fury Special. The game uses the same graphics as Real Bout Special, but returns to the same fighting system from the original Real Bout.

[edit] Characters

The character roster includes everyone from Real Bout Special, including Geese Howard, who is now a normally selectable character, but now serves as one of the standard final bosses, alternating with Wolfgang Krauser. As the game's subtitle indicates, two new characters are added to the roster: Li Xiangfei, a Chinese waitress; and Rick Strowd, a Native American boxer. The game also includes a hidden character named Alfred, who serves as the game's secret final boss.

[edit] Gameplay

Real Bout 2 features basically the same type of gameplay from its Real Bout predecessors in which, instead of fighting on both lines, you can only use the alternative line to dodge attacks and attack back from there. This game also features the return of 1-line battles from Fatal Fury 2/Special with traps (an electric fence in Cheng/Yamazaki stage and a stationary truck in Xiangfei/Hon Fu stage) instead of the second line.

[edit] PlayStation 2

Real Bout 2 is also included in the compilation Garou Densetsu: Battle Archives Vol. 2. The version of Real Bout 2 included in this compilation has Alfred as a playable character.
