Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise is the fourth full-length studio album by Emperor, and the final album released before they disbanded in 2001. It is often regarded as the most complex, progressive and diverse album released by Emperor, yet it has been criticised for straying too far from the black metal sound. Aside from complaints from so-called black metal "purists", the album received critical acclaim, and was regarded as an instant classic upon its release. Limited pressings of the album came in a black slipcase which presented the artwork in a small frame in the middle. Only a few thousand of these were produced, and the limited edition is these days a much-sought-after rarity.
All music, lyrics and arrangements by Ihsahn. The album is a birth-to-death concept album based on the story of the mythological figure Prometheus.
A video was made for the track "Empty".
