[edit] Story

There once was a pirate known as the Great Gold Pirate Woonan, who obtained almost 1/3 of the world's gold. Over the course of a few years, the pirate's existence faded, and a legend grew that he disappeared with his gold to a remote island, an island pirates continue to search for. Aboard the Going Merry, Luffy and his crew, starved and reckless, are robbed of their treasure. In an attempt to get it back they wreck the getaway ship, guided by a young boy named Tobio, who's a captive of El Drago's pirate crew. El Drago's love for gold has driven him to look for Woonan's island, and thanks to Woonan's treasure map, he finds it. During this time, Luffy's crew have been split up, and despite their own circumstances, they must find a way to stop El Drago from obtaining Woonan's gold and destroying the Straw Hats' ship forever. Who will save Luffy from the demon of the crocodile?

[edit] Trivia

  • In one of the splash images at the end of the movie is a spaghetti western picture. Characters gunslinger Gill Bastar and the ghost of Wild Joe from Eiichiro Oda's original 1997 one-shot manga collection Wanted appear briefly from a distance as a homage.
  • Movie character Golass, as well as the cameo of Wild Joe's ghost at the end credits both make a wanted poster cameo in episode 45 of One Piece. Their wanted poster images are seen aboard Fullbody's ship.
  • When Usopp is fishing in the beginning of the movie, he catches a bottle with a Baratie label, hinting at the upcoming Baratie arc. Also, Sanji appears in the end credits.
  • The antagonist of the movie, El Drago's name may have been based on El Dorado, a mythical city said to be made of gold in South America, which is fitting considering El Drago's love of gold.
