Mixmaster (Tremors: The Series)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mixmaster is an artificial chemical compound in the television show Tremors: The Series. It was designed to blend DNA of various lifeforms to make new species. Humans are however immune to the effects of Mixmaster.

[edit] Origin
Mixmaster was first created in a secret underground lab near Perfection, Nevada. After its creation, government scientists used it to create new species of life. The only known Mixmaster creature made in this time was 4-12, created by Cletus for the army's combat purposes in Vietnam. The company funding the lab, Proudfoot, turned out to be selling weapons to other countries. The Feds closed down the lab. However, in abandoning it they did leave some Mixmaster behind.
[edit] Mixmaster Set Loose
After the 4-12 incident, Perfection Valley residents encountered another Mixmaster creature. After its defeat, it was concluded that the canisters of Mixmaster in the lab had either cracked open or were completely broken. Anything alive, such as insects, that went down there would gain Mixmaster into their DNA. Anything that ate that insect, or whatever ate the animal that ate the insect, would also gain Mixmaster in their DNA. Mixmaster had been released into the valley.

[edit] 4-12
Project 4-12 was the only Mixmaster creature in the series that was intentionally created. Cletus explained that it was designed to help soldiers in Vietnam. It was to be used to hunt down soldiers in the jungle at night or in caves. 4-12 was a mix of a rhino, a switchback spider, and a wolverine. It killed its targets by stabbing them with the rhino horn between its eyes. Its vision had it use crosshairs to lock onto a target, much like the scope on a rifle. 4-12 also had x-ray vision (Cletus said he stole the idea from Superman). It was capable of assessing situations. One example is it circling Tyler's place to break through the wall with the minimum number of strikes. 4-12 releases a smell (which is a combination of skunk entrails, panther urine, and cougar excrement) designed to nauseate the enemy. El Blanco did eat 4-12, but he spit him back up shortly afterward due to this smell. In the end Burt killed 4-12 with a crudely made flamethrower. 4-12 was the oldest of the Mixmaster creations, having lived in hiding with Cletus for 30 years. Its kill count was 1, a biker who originally intended to fight it bare handed. After he saw it and ran away it chased and killed him. It also killed a wild pig near Perfection as well and Harlow's horse, and a burro.
[edit] The Ghost
This creature, at first thought to be a ghost (except by Burt), was in fact a large cloud of bacteria. Part of it was originally created on purpose in the lab. It was (according to the government agents) originally orange, as opposed to being green after the Mixmaster mutated it. It gained its energy by sucking water out of lifeforms. Though at first made to preserve food, it grew too deadly by draining too much water and was locked up. The Mixmaster caused it to combine with a silicon based life form and mutate. After the mutation, it escaped the lab through act ducts that led to an old mine. It began attacking people and eventually left the mine. It was attracted to any water source, including a lead on the water tower in Perfection. The only way to destroy it would have been with extreme heat. Napalm would've destroyed four square miles to be exact. Instead of this, Tyler (using a crudely made high power vacuum) sucked it into a toxic waste canister which was handed over to the government. This mutation had a kill count of 4 people. The three people who went into the mine (the survivor if the group later died on the way to the hospital) and one of the government agents sent to destroy it. This is the only Mixmaster creature in the series that was not killed.
[edit] The Planimal
This creature was a combination of a squash or gourd, the amazonian pitcher plant, venus flytrap and a lizard or snake. It had sacks spread out over part of the valley. When it sensed vibration near them it sprayed acid strong enough to kill humans in a single shot. Parts of the plant eventually evolved into dozens of pods. These pods would release dozens of seeds when the plant was exposed to the temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit. It was killed by Tyler who injected a poison made by Dr. Casey Matthews. This creatures kill count was 3, its acid claimed 3 of Casey's assistants. One of its seeds nearly survived, but it was crushed by Burt at the end of the episode.
[edit] The Swarm
This was not one creature, but many of the same one. This time the Mixmaster blended several species of bugs (cicada, termites, and maggots). They created a loud, deafening noise when they spotted food. At first they only ate wood, such as the posts on Rosalita's fence and her barn. But being part maggot they eventually moved onto flesh. The insects were led away from town with a mating call played on speakers in the trunk of Larry's car. They used nearby construction equipment to lay down a "new road" that served as flypaper for the bugs. After dousing it with gasoline, Tyler lit it on fire once all the bugs were stuck inside it. These guys had a kill count of 2, the workers who were going to put down a new road near Perfection. Though they also ate at least 5 of Rosalita's cattle.
[edit] Prehistoric Shrimp
Melvin built an Oasis golf course outside Perfection Valley. The pond (or lagoon as he calls it) was filled with water stolen from the valley. The water had Mixmaster in it. Unlike other mutations, this wasn't fused with another creature. The Mixmaster awakened the prehistoric shrimp DNA in a normal shrimp. It was supposed to be at least 6 ft long. Supposedly, it ate all its siblings and all the koi fish in the pond. After Melvin leaked gasoline into the pond to try and kill it, it crawled out of the pond and made its way to the aqueduct and headed for the reservoir. The trouble was that this creature had to be killed without bleeding or the water would be contaminated with Mixmaster. Rosalita set up her fence to block it on one side. Twitchill blocked the other side by driving his car into the river. Since extreme cold could kill this thing, they dumped dry ice into the section of the aqueduct it was stuck in until it died. This creature had a kill count of 3. It killed a worker under Melvin's employment and the two police officers sent to investigate the worker's death. Note that this was the only creature in the series whose entire body was never seen at once in the episode.
[edit] The Invisibat
Little is known about this creature although Larry encounters it inside a barn. When he encountered it, he tried to get it on video and called it the "Invisibat" because it was incredibly fast. It also had the ability to blend into the environment. Since this is the only creature in the series that didn't do any harm, its kill count is 0.
