Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition is a Super NES fighting game that is based on the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In this game, the Power Rangers themselves are unplayable; instead, the Zords and monsters are used to fight.
[edit] Modes
There are only 3 modes: Story Mode (1-Player), Fighting Mode (2-Player), and Trial Mode (Survival Mode). In Story Mode, the main goal is to defeat all the Zords, the villains up to Lord Zedd, and ultimately Ivan Ooze. You can choose either the Thunder Megazord (the 5 original rangers) or the Mega Tigerzord (the White Ranger). In Fighting Mode, 2 players go head-to-head with the option of choosing any of the 4 Zords or the 4 villains. Trial Mode is a test of endurance like any other Survival Mode; try to win as many matches as possible with anyone you'd like.
[edit] Characters
There are a total of 8 playable characters.
- Zords
- Villains
- Lipsyncher
- Goldar
- Silver Horns (the long-range character, appeared in Season 2)
- Lord Zedd (the other varied character, can teleport)
Ivan Ooze becomes a selectable character after pressing X, Y, and Start on the character select screen. He is unique in the sense that he flies, never touching the ground (even when attacked), and most of his powerful attacks can be performed with a single button push. Because of this, in addition to his immense power on his own and his ability to make himself invincible for a few seconds, he is considered to be the most difficult boss ever created for a fighting game, and is a prime example of "SNK Boss Syndrome".
[edit] Similarities
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Fighting Edition has been compared to the game Gundam Wing: Endless Duel, which was also developed by Natsume. The two games have similar fighting engines. This was discussed in the MMPRFE forums at Gamespot.
