[edit] Eligibility
To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, a player must meet all of the following criteria:
- He or she must have made his or her debut on the Pro Tour at least ten years before the induction year.
- He or she must have at least 100 lifetime Pro Tour Points.
- He or she must not currently be suspended from playing Magic by the DCI. (Previous suspension does not disqualify a player from entering the Hall of Fame.)
[edit] Benefits
Players who enter the Hall of Fame receive a special commemorative ring at a ceremony at the World Championship of the year of his or her induction. In addition, the player is guaranteed entry to any Pro Tour event for the rest of his or her life.
[edit] Voting Process
The following groups are able to vote on who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame:
[edit] Selection Committee
For the 2007 Hall of Fame Selection, Selection Committee comprises 93 members. These are Wizards' employees, DCI members, judges, and reporters who are heavily influential in Magic design, development, and rules, as well as the Pro Tour. [1]
[edit] Players' Committee
The Players' Committee consists of all Pro Tour players who have 100 or more lifetime Pro Tour points by a specific cut-off date each year. For 2007, this cutoff date was July 31. If a player would be on both the Players' Committee and the Selection Committee, he or she is on the Selection Committee. 110 players comprise the Player's Committee for the 2007 Hall of Fame Selection. [2]
[edit] Selection
Members of the Selection Committee and Players' Committee are given the list of players eligible for induction. Each member selects five players for induction. The votes are tabulated by a weighted percentage: Selection Committee votes count 2/3, and Players' Committee votes count 1/3. The five players with the highest percentage are inducted into the Hall of Fame.
In the first year of voting, The Selection Committee voted for five players, and the four players receiving the most votes were inducted. Then the Players' Committee voted for one player that was not already selected, and the player receiving the most votes was also inducted.
[edit] Removal
A player who has been on the Hall of Fame ballot for three years or more will be removed from the ballot if he or she appears on less than 10 percent of the returned ballots in three consecutive years. This is not weighted as it is for selection into the Hall of Fame. A player may be reinstated onto the ballot if he or she gains 4 or more Pro Tour points within a one year period.

2008 will be the first ballot in which players from previous ballots will actually be removed. As such, this ballot will serve as a test case to gauge the effectiveness of the removal process.
The following players will be removed from the ballot: David Bachmann, Kurt Burgner, Svend Geertsen, Thomas Guevin, Gary Krakower, Peer Kroger, Peter Leiher, Satoshi Nakamura, Shawn Regnier, Gabriel Tsang, Terry Tsang, and Matthew Vienneau.
The actual ballot has yet to be announced.
