M&M's: The Lost Formulas

M&M's: The Lost Formulas (Developed by Simon & Schuster Interactive) is a video game that was released on September 28, 2000 for computers such as Windows 95, Windows 98, and Macintosh. It is an arcade style, and optionally a mathematical edutainment game.

Red and Yellow decide to go on vacation, but there is a problem. Yellow left the mini's in charge of the formula factory, and they wreck the place! It is then up to Red and Yellow to get the formulas back.

[edit] Gameplay

Yellow and Red are the two playable characters. There are two modes, the math mode, and adventure mode. Math mode is simply adventure mode with math problems, with difficulty of the problems slightly progressing as the levels grow higher. The game has a total of twelve levels.

The game was criticized for being based on a candy product. Its "Math Mode" was praised for having fun features, but not so much having problems as much as having math facts. It was also criticized for being too easy on higher difficulties.

[edit] Level one, Get out of Town

Drive Yellow into town to get to the factory.

Math Zone: Look at the math clue on the right, then steer into the box that shows the correct answer.

[edit] Level two, Milk Chocolate

Now that you are in the factory, race through where milk chocolate pours and drips everywhere.

Math Zone: Listen to the math clue, then step on a platform that shows the correct answer.

[edit] Level three, Oh Chute!

Race Yellow through a series of moving belts and watch out for other obstacles!

Math Zone: Go down the moving belts and look at the passing monitors, they show a series of numbers, so when you get to three doors, find the next number in the series.

[edit] Level four, Candy Colors

Liquid candy sparys, and try to get through the candy chaos!

Math Zone: Listen for the math clue, then move to a space that matches the clue. Answer fast or you're sweet history!

[edit] Level five, Stampin' and Sortin'

Run and jump through the factory area where candies get stamped and sorted for packaging.

Math Zone: A math fact appears, then you see three doors. Roll your wheelbarrow through the door that matches that math fact and you'll advance.

[edit] Level six, Pack it in

Race through the part of the factory where minis get packed into bags and boxes and routed for storage and shipping.

Math Zone: Pack the M&M's! Watch for the math clue on the display, then step on the button that shows the answer, if you get it before time runs out, you get a bunch of candies in your cart. If not, you get packed!

[edit] Level seven, Warehouse Woes

Drive a fun forklift through acres of the winding warehouse. Watch out for those moving platforms!

Math Zone: Listen for the math clue, then steer into the box that shows the correct answer.

[edit] Level eight, The Shocking Truth

Go through the power system for the whole M&M's factory, aviod geting zapped by power circuts!

Math Zone: Listen to the math clue, then jump on a platform that shows the correct answer. Hurry, or you're in for a shock!

[edit] Bonus Levels

These are the four bonus levels, they are found in start and in the end zones. Also, there are three of them hidden in the Chocolate Milk/Black boxes.

Blue formula- Ride the Rocket: Yellow flies a rocket all the way to the secret M&M's testing lab in outer space!
Black formula- Robot Stampede: Yellow runs toward you, pursued by stampeding robots. watch for obstacles in front and robots behind!
Yellow formula- Pipe Down: Surf through the water pipes on a funky, high-tech "surfboard".
Red formula- Track Trouble: A wild run through criss-crossing train tracks, where a freight car tries to nail you at every turn.
