Gods, Graves and Scholars: the Story of Archaeology

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gods Graves, and Scholars is the title of a book written on popular archaeology by C. W. Ceram. First published in 1949, it is an important work on archaeology for a number of reasons. Divided into five sections, it covers Greek, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and South American archaeology. It gives brief but informative biographies on archaeologists such as Schliemann, Champollion, Botta, and other contributors, tying these into each section. It also has a fifth and much shorter section about fields of archaeology that are still evolving. While not a textbook by any means, Gods, Graves, and Scholars is an informative work on a relevant subject.
