Urza's Saga | Anthologies | Urza's Legacy |
Anthologies was a box set, the second compilation set, from the card game Magic: The Gathering. It was printed in November 1998 to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Magic. It featured cards from Alpha through Urza's Saga. The print run was unknown. When it was first printed, Anthologies sold for around $20.00 MSRP, but prices have risen since. However, the cards are still considered Promotional, and have no tournament value in Standard.
[edit] Features
Anthologies had two decks, Green/White and Black/Red. It was printed with and without expansion symbols. It was white-bordered.
The Anthologies cards with identical copies in 5th Edition (i.e. Armageddon, Nevinyrral's Disk, etc.) bear a striking resemblance to those from 5th Edition. They can be told apart by looking at the copyright line:
5th Edition cards have "© 1997", whereas the Anthologies reprints have "© 1993-1998", which became the new standard for the copyright line with the release of Exodus.
[edit] Notable Cards
- Armageddon- A white card. It has the power to destroy all lands with four mana. A staple in white weenies.
- Erhnam Djinn- Included in Green/White, Erhnam Djinn packed a punch, and its drawback was weakened with the addition of the other stampeding forces in the deck.
- Ihsan's Shade- The classic black legend was reprinted with Anthologies, as it was made to take down Erhnam Djinn.
- Mirri, Cat Warrior- was misprinted with a common symbol and being a 2/2 instead of the original version's 2/3
- Nevinyrral's Disk- The classic wipeout artifact that originated in Alpha
