Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna (Sometimes referred to as Anastasia: The Story of Anna[1]) is a 1986 Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning TV movie, starring Amy Irving, Olivia de Havilland and Jan Niklas. The film was loosely based on the story of Anastasia and the novel, The Riddle of Anna Anderson, by Peter Kurth[2]. It was the first film that starred Christian Bale and the last film that starred Rex Harrison. It was originally broadcasted in two parts.

The film revolves around Anna Anderson, who truly believes that she's Anastasia Romanov, daughter of Czar Nicholas. Anna first tells her story in 1920 when she is an inmate in a Berlin asylum.Her story of escape from the Bolsheviks who killed the rest of her family in 1918 seems so vivid that many Russian expatriates are willing to believe her. She slowly gains more thrust but also more people who don't believe her. It's never revealed if she's is really is the daughter of the Czar.
