[edit] Bloxham
Do you have a source for the claim that Bloxham's church spire is the highest in Oxfordshire? It isn't mentioned on the Bloxham Website, and I haven't been able to find any other confirmation. (It isn't that I don't believe you – it sounds reasoable enough – but we have a policy on giving citations.) --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 12:50, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks — that's great; I've added the link to the article and as a citation (though, as the article only says "reputedly", I've added a qualifier). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:52, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] helpful tip
hi, I notice you on the new article patrol (you beat me to Mr George Guyatt). I notice that you wrote {{db| An article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject}}. While that is 100% correct a the tag {{db-bio}} will have the same effect. If you want to know about more shortcut for speedy deletes see the list on the sidebar of the page Wikipedia:Speedy deletions. Jon513 20:23, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- the correct way to deal with vandalism is first to leave an appropiate message on his user page see Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace for the full list. Generally he will be blocked with you having to do anything. In this case I have already reported him to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Jon513 20:34, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes i am and what has someone put on the bottom here above this ? also ive seen your bretch hill stuff
Think of something we do about idealy a new article but a stub will do can you think of one?
do you mean kraft foods banbury or just kraft foods? p.s are you going to delete any of this junk people have written on your page or not ??
[edit] Substing talk templates
Hi, Thatperson. Just a note that it's recommended when leaving warining templates on editor's talk pages to Subst them ( so that {{test}} is added as {{subst:test}} ). Happy patrolling and editing - Peripitus (Talk) 12:34, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bretch Hill
Hi Thatperson, your suggestion of merging the Bretch Hill and Neithrop pages might be a good idea. I included Orchard Fields based on the fact that I grew up on the Bretch Hill estate and went to that school myself (when it was still called the Neithrop) and knew lots of other children from the estate who went there too (though admittedly this was before William Morris existed). Perhaps the main article should be Neithrop and Bretch Hill should be a subsection within it.MFlet1 12:45, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
RE Bretch Hill/Neithrop boundary: I'm not sure there's any official boundary but I tend to think of Hastings Road, Prescott Avenue and Edmunds Road as all being part of the Bretch Hill estate as they were built at the same time, and The Fairway, Withycombe Drive etc as being part of Neithrop.MFlet1 17:34, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi again, in answer to your question, I don't really know anything about the other estates as I've hardly ever visited them! MFlet1 21:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] banbury related articles
hi saga city two things, firstly, was it necessary to change the articles to say for example hardwick, banbury to hardwick, oxfordshire? i ask because i know you stated banbury was not a county but it might make people think hardwick is a seperate settlement withen oxfordshire, southampton has a similar arrangement of articles on estates and they have southampton as an extension for all articles. You also stated that a couple of them were unique, well someone from another town may add another grimsbury from there town, i think it would be best to insure ourselfs from that sort of thing esspecially as they are not major articles, ill wait for your response before any major edits. Thanks Thatperson 16:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC) :)
- There are well-established naming conventions for placenames throughout the world. They allow redlinks to be created with a fair degree of certainty that the article will link to them if/when it's created. This was the case with some of the Banbury articles (see, for each, "What links here"). The standard for the UK is placename alone, if not unique then it's placename followed by ceremonial county. If there are two places in a ceremonial county then it's placename followed by district. The problem that your renaming exercise caused was that all the Banbury articles formed a little self-referential pool within Wikipedia but - as the 'Banbury' affix is not standard - they were invisible to other article thus causing unecessary redlinks. The problem with that is that someone else will start an article with the 'approved' name, which in the long run leads to further problems. Can I suggest you look at "What links here" for each of the articles in question and you will see that many pick up pointers from elsewhere in Wikipedia. It is this connectivity that make Wikipedia the useful tool that it is and why following established naming conventions for places and people enhances this. I understand why you named them as you did (another editor insists on affixing the non-standard 'Huddersfield' to places there) but I hope you will understand why I brought them into mainstream Wikipedia practice. Hi there. I have no argument with your assessment of this article, but you are not using the {{db}} template in quite the right way. There are a list of specific reasons accepted in wiki as reasons for speedy deletion; they can be found at WP:SPEEDY. Hope this helps.--Anthony.bradbury 11:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: southampton suburbs map
Hi, thanks for your message. The map I created was based loosely on a Google maps image too; I'm more than happy for you to change it to a better image if you have one. Something to note though is that there are a whole series of these images that I've uploaded; one with no suburbs highlighted, and then one for each suburb with the relevant suburb highlighted. If you have the time and inclination, it would be great if we could keep them all looking consistent. But I'm not precious about the images at all, so do feel free to go ahead and be bold. Cheers, Waggers 11:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Speedcubing
I put that up there because I doubt those articles will be enough on their own for the foreseeable future, but they'd greatly improve the speedcubing article as well as incubate there. I put the tag up rather than just doing it though because discussion like this is necessary and healthy towards keeping harmony on here and improving the encyclopedia as a whole. We can agree to disagree and take no action, but I hope we can find a compromise. I don't feel very strongly about the speedcubing merge, i'm just sharing my opinion. [edit] WP:ADOPT
Hi there,
As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.
Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.
So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:23, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article deletion
the articles Speedcubing in the united states and speedcubing in the united kingdom have both been deleted. 18:28, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
I put them both up for the five day deletion. Do you think if i tagged my user page for speedy deletion it would be deleted? because i want it to be deleted and i will copy and paste the code back on so it wont say i have 210 edits to it.

Obviously there will be a huge number of players. I am doing oxford united but if you want to do some then find a conference club and add it to all their players. it would be a big favour. --geniussansom 16:28, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Speedcubing infobox
Hi! Thanks for your message. As I had mentioned on the article's Talk page, there were a couple of reasons why I removed the infobox. One of the main reasons was that I didn't feel it really added very much to the article -- given that the articles for other sports don't have infoboxes (for example, baseball, basketball, and hockey all lead in without an infobox), and the types of things that were included in the box you put in, it seemed a bit disorganized, distracting, and detracting from the overall streamlined look we're aiming for in the article. In addition, some of the facts were inaccurate, or felt like they weren't suitable for the lead image, and one of the first things that a reader would look at.
Please don't get me wrong -- I really appreciated the work you put into it, and the initiative that you took with it. I just felt that the article worked better without it. Please feel free to discuss it further with me, though, or take the discussion back to the article's Talk page. I hope my response was helpful! --Twilightsojourn 16:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

- Oh, that's quite handy! Well, I competed in the 2003 World Championships, but I don't think the WCA had been formed at that point, so I'm guessing that technically, I haven't. :-( I'd like to go to the World Championships later this year, though, so I guess if I make it, I'll be able to use your userbox. :-) Thanks! --Twilightsojourn 16:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

- Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:
- Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
- Make your case on the article's talk page.
Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. JuJube 20:55, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
