[edit] MfD nomination of User:AntiHomophobe

User:AntiHomophobe, a page you created, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:AntiHomophobe and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:AntiHomophobe during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. This account with this username has been blocked indefinitely because the username may be offensive, disruptive, promotional, confusing, or misleading, or be otherwise inappropriate (see our blocking and username policies for more information).

You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under an appropriate username. Our username policy provides guidance on selecting your username.

Alternately, you may request a change in username if you want to keep the contributions from this account. To do so, please follow these directions:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked.
  3. You will have 24 hours after the unblock to file a request before you may be re-blocked. Please note, you may only request a name that is not already in use; do not create the new account then request a name change. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username.

In many cases (especially if your account has few or no edits), it is much easier to create a new account. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account. Due to Wikipedia's mechanism for enforcing name changes, your IP address may be temporarily blocked. Unless you have also been engaging in vandalism or impersonation of another user, we will remove that block as soon as possible.

If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you.

Docg 15:01, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to 123Pie (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Request handled by: Mangojuicetalk 18:02, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, request made! --AntiHomophobe (talk) 18:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Deleted. In the future you can use {{db-g7}} to request that a page that only you have edited be deleted: the system is better for that since it wouldn't rely on only one administrator to notice. Mangojuicetalk 18:36, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
OK, thanks. --AntiHomophobe (talk) 18:39, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

[edit] Admin

{{helpme|I wanna be and admin.}} Can somebody train me to become an admin? --123Pie (talk) 11:17, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

The way to become an admin is to gain broad experience in Wikipedia while comporting yourself admirably. I suggest you seek to get adopted through the Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User program, which should help you learn the ropes.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hello, 123Pie. In order to be an admin, you'll have to go through a Request for Adminship (or be nominated for that same process by another user). Admins are chosen by the community as a matter of trust, so you'll have to demonstrate through your contributions that you are knowledgeable of our policies and guidelines and how to apply them. Before I go on, I should also point out that being an admin isn't a big deal - it just means the community trusts you enough that they let you have a couple extra buttons.
If this is something you're looking toward, I'd recommend you start out in the adopt-a-user program, since you appear to be new to the project. That program will pair you with an experienced editor you will work with you to get you acquainted to the project and how it works. Later on, once you've gathered some experience of your own, you can start the admin coaching process, whereupon an admin will work with you to get you prepared for your RfA. These programs aren't required, but they will certainly help you out.
If you still have any questions, please feel free to put up another helpme. I hope this helps; happy editing and welcome to Wikipedia! Hersfold (t/a/c) 13:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Betacommand

You know, your recent addition to the User talk:BetacommandBot page could be taken as being at best less than civil and possibly, just possibly, as a personal attack on the bot operator. the addition of the MfD template could even be seen as at least potentially bordering on harrassment. For someone who wants to become an admin, that's probably not the best way to get people to think you have the neutrality and objectivity to be trusted with the tools. You might want to lay off such incendiary comments in the future. John Carter (talk) 14:42, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I personally think that bots should be removed, but I won't let that get in the way of my enlightenment, I am sorry about that comment. --123Pie (talk) 15:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
To a degree, I agree with you. However, I have myself requested and gotten very useful help from this particular bot in tagging articles for some projects. Yes, I could have myself gone through and tagged them all by hand as I made the assessments, but I have found out in the past that doing so takes me at least a week, and that there is always the possibility of being derailed from the task by other matters. In fact, I've got another request out at Wikipedia:Bot requests right now, and probably about 50 to 100 more in the offing. I know that many people object most strenuously to this bots notices regarding possible deletion of images, but I think those images could still be deleted without such notice being sent, so it at least gives a way for the creators of the images to work on them before such action is taken. Yes, BetacommandBot has had a few technical malfunctions, maybe more than a few, I don't know, but much of the work it does is still work that would almost never be done otherwise. Also, regretably, there's no reason to think that manual efforts would necessarily be any better. I know this bot gets a lot of criticism, but I can't myself question whether it has made wikipedia, in at least some ways, better, in that if nothing else it gets a lot of copyright violation images recognized as such. John Carter (talk) 15:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
But bots don't have an human opinion, they don't read other parts of the page, they look for certain quotes and codes, humans can see spelling mistakes. Human's, in the long term, are better then bots. Plus doing big things manually keeps you from being bored. --123Pie (talk) 15:29, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

It would really help if you were to indicate what your article interests were a bit more clearly than you have for you to be offered adoption. Fighting vandalism is good, don't get me wrong, but it is often hard to fight vandalism on articles where you may not know enough about a given subject to know if recent additions are vandalism or not. It would very much help if you were to indicate what specific topical areas of interest you have, so that an adopter who knows that subject might be able to think he would be able to help you. Also, if there is any chance of me being a potentially useful adopter to you, I certainly would be interested in knowing your topical interests. The weather here is such that I am basically going to be turning off the computer soon, but things should be back to normal tomorrow and I can check your response then. John Carter (talk) 18:15, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

I tend to go Random article, help there, I check Special:Logs/Newusers and.. --123Pie (talk) 18:24, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
That I understand. But, for instance, it's a lot harder for someone who doesn't know Scientology for instance whether certain additions are or are not vandalism. Do you have any particular as it were "subjects" that specifically interest you? John Carter (talk) 18:29, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
One thing that you might be interested in doing, and which might very easily increase your chances of becoming an admin, would be to join one of the WikiProjects relating to a subject you're interested in, and getting a solid understanding of article creation as well. There is a fairly good list of the existing WikiProjects at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory and its various subpages. You might see if there is a group or two which relate to specific fields of interest of yours, and maybe join them or help them develop a few articles. John Carter (talk) 19:37, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Will do. --Pie's can talk! 14:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jesus

I reverted your edits to Jesus as possible vandalism. Calling the central figure of a leading world religion "nonexistent" is inflammatory and clearly violates NPOV. Also your changes to the first sentence of the lead contradict what our cited sources say. Please consider not making such disruptive edits in the future, and if these edits were in good faith, consider discussing them on the talk page. Thanks.-Andrew c [talk] 21:21, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Infantry rifle, type 1842

A tag has been placed on Infantry rifle, type 1842 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Non-wiki

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Minigate-activated.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Minigate-activated.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:38, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] MOS

Further information: User talk:Nyttend#MoS

Township articles throughout Nebraska spell out the numbers. And what is wrong with spelling out numbers? I see that the numbers section notes that "numbers of more than one digit are generally rendered as figures", but it permits spelling them out. There's widespread precedent that one doesn't change from one permitted style to another, so please do not change this again. Nyttend (talk) 13:59, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

There's no difference between Template:Intlinkcode2 and Template:Intlinkcode2s it's not as if we were simply linking to Template:Intlinkcode2 or Template:Intlinkcodes. Thanks for trying to improve things, but with a link of this sort it has exactly no effect, except the server space it takes the computers to process your edit. Nyttend (talk) 00:30, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
