[edit] Thanks for helping out with that book article today
Thanks for cleaning up the "linkspam." I knew I was doing something wrong, but wasn't sure how to get the list done right. As a busy programmer-tech, I often don't have time to spend on finding and formatting the correct templates: I'm considering a project to help with that sort of thing. Cwolfsheep 23:14, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Update: No problem. I love how Wikipedia automatically links ISBN numbers to free sources.

[edit] Articles by class and importance
I was just casually spying on someone else's page, (actually, I saw the above subject in recent changes and, as I'm doing a lot of assessments, was more than a little interested), the biggest problem would be that the importance rankings are far from consistent across the projects. One article could be top, high, and low importance to various groups which deal with it in various ways. A scientist/politician/person from various countries/humanitarian might get different importance rankings from each group mentioned above. I personally don't know, but I think that the confusion resulting from having a single article included in the various importance categories would probably be the biggest problem. Badbilltucker 01:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I was referring to having the statistics being generated per WikiProject, as they are for the current daily statistics updates. It doesn't seem to be applicable in this situation, but perhaps I'm wrong. Could you rephrase it? thadius856talk 03:47, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I can't really rephrase it, as you caught my own gaff right the first time. My apologies for having made it, by the way. And my sincerely thanks for all the work you've been doing. I had to page down quite a bit to find the original comment I was referring to. Considering that comment was only made yesterday, you have been doing a lot of work today. Also, as you are no doubt aware, other better informed people have responded more clearly to your question elsewhere. [edit] List of airforces
thank you ofr the accusation of adding nonsense; the "nonsense" was actually a list of the NZ squadrons of the RAF, in the format used immediately above in the entry for the Netherlands. While this format might not be ideal (perhaps links to the squadrons would be more appropriate), it should be immediately evident to anyone with enough knowledge of the RNZAF to edit the entry what was going on. (please think before you delete, and following wiki policy, assume good intentions).
Thanks for your quick response, apology accepted, sorry didn't mean to sound grumpy. Though thankfully the acronym RNZAF is only used after the words have been typed in full. FYI [1] I agree, the whole page is too obscure for those unfamilar with aviation, (actually I see some one has tagged it to that extent). I'll stick with the existing format as I don't have the expertise to fix the whole thing, but hopefully one of the military or aviation projects will give it an overhaul :-). 130.216.191.183 02:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you've made mistake. I have reviewed my edit and find that I had added a link; contrary to your edit summary and revert I did not remove any content. [edit] Regarding Youtube external link
Thanks for pointing my mistake of adding Youtube link as external citation. As pointed out by you,Wikipedia policy on external link indicates that external links containing rich media cannot be added if it requires extra software like Flash or Java. I think youtube site videos does not require any external software and can be viewed using Windows media player or any other video software which normally comes with operating system. However,I am adding content again without youtube citation.I hope this is acceptable to you.
Are you using automated system or have you reverted my edit manually? It looked like automatic edit using bots. But I am not able to trace any usage of BOTS in your user page. --Indianstar 06:46, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- I am using a bot indirectly. We have a bot on irc.freenode.net #wikipedia-spam which monitors Wikipedia's official IRC recent changes feed to identify linkspam with exceedingly better accuracy. It loads each edit and tells the channel which edits added external links. A small handful sites are automatically reverted by a bot (ex, Amazon.com book listings), while others are highlighted red, including YouTube links. At this point, it is a human's responsibility to load the diff, follow the link and determine if it should be removed or not.
- The problem with YouTube links is not specifically that they are rich media. Most often the case (99.9% of the time) the problem is that the video, page or profile does not contain copyright licensing information. They do not state their conditions for use or which license they are released under, if any. Under such circumstances—when copyright information cannot be obtained—it must be presumed to be material infringing upon copyright law.
- Hopefully that clears it up some. Just note that the issue is not interoperability or rich media policies. I was just thinking of updating my template to reflect this when I received your message. thadius856talk 06:57, 18 November 2006 (UTC).
I agree about copyright problems when youtube videos/images are added directly in wikipedia.Whether we should worry about copyrights when youtube videos are pointed out as external link?.External links only directs to relevant website. Copyrights of youtube contents needs to be worried by youtube website. This is my point of view. I may be wrong. --Indianstar 07:49, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- I originally thought so at first too. However, it's not the case unfortunately. From WP:COPYRIGHT:
- External sites can possibly violate copyright. Linking to copyrighted works is usually not a problem, as long as you have made a reasonable effort to determine that the page in question is not violating someone else's copyright. If it is, please do not link to the page. Knowingly and intentionally directing others to a site that violates copyright has been considered a form of contributory infringement in the United States (Intellectual Reserve v. Utah Lighthouse Ministry). Also, linking to a page that illegally distributes someone else's work sheds a bad light on us. If the site in question is making fair use of the material, linking is fine.
- Still working on an update to my templates so that this is clarified for other users as well in the future. thadius856talk 08:02, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok.If you are sure about your claims, I suggest you to initiate steps to modify Wikipedia:External_Links policy to remove ambiguities.

[edit] WP:UW needs you.
Hi, I found your templates via a collegue of yours, who left a message 2 about the work you are doing at wikipedia spam. I with another editor have recently revitalised the WikiProject for user warnings WP:UW, with a goal of creating a simplified system of informing users of Wikipedia protocol. This may involve informing newcomers of how one is expected to edit whilst using wikipedia, but with a main aim of identifying easily, those who have no wish to provide constructive input to wikipedia. This inturn allows editors like myself who patrol recent changes to yourself looking after spam, to have blocks issued quickly and painlessly. If you can list some requirements I can look to adding it into our spam warnings, or even better sign up for the project, and with concensus you can look after the spam warnings from the inside. Thad, I'm really, really sorry for the kickban and all the other crap on IRC. It was a stupid thing to do, it wasn't warranted. We'd really like to have you back in the channel, if you can ever forgive me for it. I just don't like mass CTCPs/notices is all, but I still should have just said something instead of kickbanning. [edit] User vandalism reports
Several things. First of all, I didn't vandalize the Abortion article. I am a member in good standing with between 500-1000 edits under the handle ZelmersZoetrop, though I'm not logged in right now. Second, I hope you're aware that many (most?) users connect to the internet using dynamic IP addresses and that commenting on additions for an IP user talk page is in most cases a useless gesture. Third, if you suspect a user is vandalizing wikipedia, do not call their additions "nonsense" - instead, use one of the community-accepted templates such as "yes, your changes worked," etc. etc. (can't recite verbatim off the top of my head). You may direct your response if any to the ZelmersZoetrop talk page. 67.150.244.183 08:41, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-18 Singapore Changi Airport
Hi there. A Mediation cabal case has been opened regarding the dispute at Changi Airport. The mediators, User:Hunterd and I, would like to hear everyone's stand on the dispute. - Update: I would do so, but linking to blogs as a source is not always a violation of policy. Some can be valid.

Thadius856,
Thanks for the invite to the airports project. Pass for now. Not so much interested in the airports, directly, more so in the Saudi-US relationship, one aspect of which is the Dhahran Airfield. Ok.If you are sure about your claims, I suggest you to initiate steps to modify Wikipedia:External_Links policy to remove ambiguities.

[edit] WP:UW needs you.
Hi, I found your templates via a collegue of yours, who left a message 4 about the work you are doing at wikipedia spam. [edit] talkheader
Hi, you don't need to add talkheader to every airport talk page, it's only really supposed to be used on the more active talk pages, otherwise it reduces its impact (I just thought I'd tell you before you go and add it to too many talk pages). Tra (Talk) 01:27, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] IRC
Thad, I'm really, really sorry for the kickban and all the other crap on IRC. It was a stupid thing to do, it wasn't warranted. We'd really like to have you back in the channel, if you can ever forgive me for it. I just don't like mass CTCPs/notices is all, but I still should have just said something instead of kickbanning. Sorry mate. Shadow1 (talk) 01:59, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Any input is very welcome at Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-18 Singapore Changi Airport#Discussion, could you please indicate your stand regarding the dispute, and why you think the names should stay/go? Thanks, – Chacor 02:28, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank for the invitation, but I wasn't the person who created the page Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport; that would be Timvasquez (talk · contribs). [edit] Gnoss Field / Marin County Airport
While your edit isn't incorrect and doesn't detract from the article, Gnoss is the most common name for the airport. I'm sure that if you flew there you'd hear it plenty on the CTAF. Thanks for giving the article some attention. Conn, Kit 04:37, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Update: I'm sorry you disagree. Feel free to move it back, though you may need admin assistance. You may wish to change List of airports in California to reflect this change once its been made. thadius856talk|airports|neutrality 18:51, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Suggestion for new Bot
I suggest you to develop new bot for filterning out Blogs added in articles as citations or external links like you have done for filtering youtube citations. I have observed few users put personal blogs as external links and some users put blogs as citations. --Indianstar 14:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Update: I would do so, but linking to blogs as a source is not always a violation of policy. Some can be valid.
- With such a case possible, it's not as easy as simply removing them en mass unattended. thadius856talk|airports|neutrality 18:16, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] wikiprojects airport
Thadius856,
Thanks for the invite to the airports project. Pass for now. Not so much interested in the airports, directly, more so in the Saudi-US relationship, one aspect of which is the Dhahran Airfield. Trying to capture that political/governmental aspect of this airfield as opposed to the airport aspect. - Thaimoss 00:52, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for invitation to join the airports project - already a member actually. Apart from the Béziers-Agde-Vias Airport article I also started Heston Aerodrome and did some major work on Stapleford Aerodrome and Toulouse-Lasbordes Airport as well as edits/updates on Carcassonne Salvaza Airport, Girona-Costa Brava Airport, Nottingham East Midlands Airport, RAF Northolt, Welshpool Airport and many others. I'm intending to do a major piece on Netherthorpe Airfield from where I've been flying for 20 years. Emeraude 14:34, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] ?
is there any way to put any non famous band in? I bet ur gonna say no! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ktm4391 (talk • contribs) 07:39, December 10, 2006
- Update: Unfortunately not. All articles, regardless of subject, are governed by WP:N. However, you might be more interested in reading WP:BAND, as it's specific to musical groups. If the band has something that states notability, such as an editorial in a respected magazine, album produced by a major label, etc., it would qualify. Notice that the template I put on the page was is for an article which does not assert its notability... if there's more than that one radio show, there is likely nothing I could say against it. Thanks! thadius856talk|airports|neutrality 08:07, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] well
Would a reference to a battle of the bands that they got second place in be sufficient?
- Update: If it's a local, high school, etc battle of the bands, that probably wouldn't suffice for showing notability. If it was a major event sponsored by a big name, it might. You might want to ask over at Wikipedia talk:Notability (music) if you have any other questions. thadius856talk|airports|neutrality 02:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for everything

[edit] Chuuk et al.
I saw your note and thank you for the invitation! I don't think I've got consistent-enough Wikitime for it to be worth it to the project, but I'd like to know what would be needed to "un-stub" the airport entries I created (I talk to them frequently enough, whatcha need to know?).

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Cheetah Energy.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Cheetah Energy.png. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Warning templates
Just wondering why you're not supposed to subst the template messages at User talk:Thadius856/templates/badlink. I tested a template in the sandbox, both not substing and substing and I couldn't see any problems with it. --WikiSlasher 01:14, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- I recommended not subst'ing them because they contain quite a few statements. When subst'd, they all show up as a large, garbled mess, instead of one neat little line calling the template. thadius856talk|airports|neutrality 08:57, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More on airport redlinks
Hi Thadius. As I wrote on my talk page last weekend, my script can now parse the lists of airports by IATA and ICAO codes, and outputs the number of redlinks and bluelinks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/Creation drive/Status bar, and the actual lists of redlinks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/Creation drive/List A, etc.
Today I tried to work on the lists of airports by US state, following Template:List of United States airports. There is a problem. List of airports in Alaska and List of airports in Alabama have different formats (the html is the same, but the wikicode for the tables is very different). That can be a problem, as a bot is only as smart as it was programmed, so it won't give good results if the data is not in the format it expects.
It would be nice if a single format is used across all lists of US states airports. Would it be possible to convert List of airports in Alaska to the format of List of airports in Alabama (which seems to be the format of most other lists)? (Or if you want, the other way around.) I am almost done on implementing a routine which would parse those lists by US state, I just need to know which would be the format the bot would expect across those lists.
Thanks. You can reply here. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 07:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
