After a while of lurking discussion pages, I finally buckled down and registered. So feel free to give me advice, criticism, etc on any of my edits.

[edit] What's in a name?

I learned in a psychology class a few years ago that Freud thought everyone had a compulsion to commit suicide, a sort of death drive. This, he believed, came from man's wishing for things to be the way they were before. Later called the Thanatos instinct, this death drive is the little voice that makes you want to jump when you look out a high window. 'Oh,' I thought, 'so the Thanatos instinct is like having an editor in your head all day.'
