[edit] What I do here
You will find me editing a lot of articles to do with video games. This is one of my greatest passions and is one thing I know much about. Animated shows\films (mostly North American and European) are my secondary passion, followed by every other form of 'art' (painting, sculpture, film, etc.), and related terms.
My first edits to this page were to do with the Silent Hill and Silent Hill (video game) section. Since then I have branched out to my other interests. You will often find me arguing over minute details with people who merely delete things instead of making them more accurate. I am quick to use the word prick to describe these people on talk pages, as well as not shying away from the use of sarcasm.
Feel free to discuss some of my actions with my on my talk page. I don't mind discussing things.
[edit] On the topic of me
I am a fan surrealism and expressionism and, as such, am partial to such names as Sam Kieth (of The Maxx, Four Women), John Kricfalusi (of Ren & Stimpy, The Ripping Friends), Jhonen Vasquez (Invader Zim, I Feel Sick), Salvador Dalí (works are too numerous and well known to recount), Man Ray (same as Dalí), Edvard Munch (pronounced 'monk', creator of The Scream), Matthew Barney (The Cremaster Cycle), David Cronenberg (eXistenZ, Videodrome), Don Hertzfeldt (Rejected, The Animation Show), Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Milton series), David Lynch (Eraserhead, Lost Highway), among others.
My musical tastes are a tad more varied. I'm currently obsessed with the hard-to-describe geek-pop band They Might Be Giants although I listen to everything from Punk Rawk to the inaccurately named 'Classical music'. My current interests include, but are not limited to, Igor Stravinsky (L'oiseau de feu, Danses des adolescentes. etc.), Akira Yamaoka, Arnold Schoenberg, Danny Elfman, Phillip Glass (Einstein on the Beach), Nine Inch Nails, Sevendust, Buck 65, NOFX, MxPx, Sublime, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Queens of the Stone Age, 311, Dream Theater, Everclear, Dick Dale, and even interestingly enough Harry and the Potters... the list goes on. I play the bass, guitar, piano\organ, accordion, trumpet\cornet, and am a vocalist and amateur composer.
In respect to video games, I am a major proponent of the idea of 'video game as art'. Despite my apparent affinity towards Nintendo creations, I tend to favour franchises owned by Konami as I feel such titles as Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid are, to me, two of the most, to use a term used by the United States' Library of Congress, 'culturally significant' game franchises to date. I am currently investigating the Castlevania series, but early reports are grim. I am really interested in the video game anomalies, such as the failed Virtual Boy and Game.com consoles\handhelds, the currently successful Nintendo DS, and the now released Wii.
Despite my varied artistic influences I have a general interest in science, namely astronomy, chemistry and anthropology.
I recently graduated from university with a general Arts degree and have no idea what to do with it. If anyone has any use for an artistic theorist who draws, writes, and\or plays bass, let me know.
[edit] Pet Peeves on Wikipedia
- US-Centricism: This seems to be a common occurrence on wikipedia. English users from the United States are constantly ignorant of alternative spellings, and sometimes, other English speaking countries. I'm usually found changing 'The US' to 'North America' or 'US and Canada' as the situation merits.
- Vandalism: See my talk page.
- Tagged on points: An example is when an article has a sentence saying, lets say, "The Earth is flat" and someone comes along and, instead of correcting the line, adds a sentence onto the end like, "However, most people tend not to agree with the previous statement." Just rewrite the damn thing!
