MerCee (born Torrey Thorton, July 10, 1984) is an American rap artist. He has taken on the industry from the early age of 15 as a solo artist. By 2000 he was starting to walk in the foot steps of his older brother Merc, whom already had a group with Burn Unit Records called Mercenary. Through several attempts at becoming Boss-Smit’s next big break through, the CEO/House Producer didn’t think MerCee was ready yet. In 2002, Mercee got his first big shot on the song entitled “Tears” from which he was featured by another Burn Unit group, Southern Tides. The response to his debut smash was enough to make Mercee the next rapper to expand the horizons of Burn Units’ already well established label. In 2003, his debut album “Da Rouge” is released, earning him a spot as a member of Mercenary. The group found many struggles in getting their first album out, with Big Bear(former Southern Tides now Mercenary member) going to jail in 2004. In 2005, Mercenary headed back to the studio to complete “Streets, Sins & Sacrifices” which was released in September 2005. The back-bone of Mercenary, Merc, was killed in the involvement of an Aug. 2nd 2005 double homicide. With the release date pushed back yet again to 2006, the group faced more set backs and delays. MerCee was arrested on gun charges and possession leading to a 2007 probation sentence. During 2007 MerCee recorded his most recent album, “The Reinvention” featuring singles “Snapper” and “Roll the Dice On Em” which have both charted in record pool charts all over the country. "The ReInvention" was released online on 9/25/07. MerCee's solo career also features him opening for big industry names like Yung Joc, K-Ci & JoJo,New Edition, and Shop Boyz.
