Tharuvana

Tharuvana is a small town in Vellamunda Panchayath of Wayanad District, Kerala, India.The place is a junction en route to Mananthavady.The word "tharuvana" is derived from malayalam words "tharu" ( means please give ) and "ana" ( means cash ). The combined word "Tharuvana" means Please give Cash. Earlier this place was a tax collection point. People give tax here by cash. In local language people just say "Ana" paid to Governments instead of Tax. The history of tharuvana dates back to the Pazhassi Raja dynasty. In that period Tharuvana was a main trade center of the Panchayath. In that period Nair,Embranthiri,Kurichya,and Paniya communities are the main inhabitants.

Presently Tharuvana is some what a developed small town having a Co operative Bank, Post office, High School, Village Office, Private Hospital and many retail trading shops.
