[edit] Feudalism in Tharparkar
The Tharparkar area is still stuck in middle ages when the landlords (Zamindar) had power of life or death on their serfs (Hari). The Tharparkar district also had the disctinction of being the only Hindu dominated district in Pakistan until 1965. In 1965 Pakistan-India war the large areas of Tharparkar district were occupied by Indian army and most of the Hindu population took the oppurtunity to migrate to India. The most of the landlords in this area are Hindu Thakurs related to Thakurs of Rajasthan. Both Muslim and Hindu Zamindar (landlords) have their private jails where haris (serfs) are jailed if they defy the landlords. In the elections the landlords have their representative running from all major political parties so regardless whoever wins they have their member elected. Tharparkar is not an Hindu-Muslim issue but rather of feudal system still existing in many parts of Pakistan. Siddiqui 13:33, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
