[edit] Merger proposal

I do not understand why Apdevries is now proposing merging Thames Ditton Island with Boyle Farm Island, within a day of having put the two square brackets around 'Boyle Farm Island' as they appeared in the 'Thames Ditton Island' article. This clearly implied to me that Apdevries thought that Boyle Farm Island should have a new, separate entry. Why the change of mind?Gavin Wilson 06:42, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I made an entry in the Boyle Farm Island talk page. Should probably also have made the entry here, but not quite sure what the protocol is.
The following moved from talk:Boyle Farm Island
This is another very interesting article, but I suggest we combine this into a larger article as part of Thames Ditton Island. The two islands are geographically so close that they share a lot of common history. I refer to Wikipedia:merging and moving pages#Merging Apdevries 05:06, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

I repeat the question -- why the change of mind within a day? I went to considerable effort to research Boyle Farm Island once I knew someone thought it deserved its own entry. People who want to play at being editors, rather than writers, need to appreciate the amount of effort the writers go to, before they (the editors) so swiftly change their minds about the notability of the subject. Hi, I still think Boyle Farm Island deserves an entry, and I think the work you did is fabulous. I originally created the link because the link to an empty page already existed at Islands in the River Thames. You were super-quick to create content, and strikes me that the story of the two islands are so interrelated that a single entry that contains the history of both would be even more interesting and compelling. If you would like help with this, I can create a mock-up of what a merged page might look like in a sandbox before we decide to make any changes. Apdevries 13:52, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm not very familiar with sandboxes -- worried that everything gets deleted as soon as I log off -- so I'll leave it up to you. Prefer to edit straight into the article, but that seems to invoke the ire of Speedy Delete maniacs. Gavin Wilson 18:47, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I have now completed the drafting of a proposed merged page at User:Apdevries/Thames Ditton Island. I suggest we continue the discussion there until we reach consensus. Apdevries 07:09, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
