- Comment by Matumit Sombunjaroen, "Khun" is actually used on both men and women, with roughly the same meaning as Japanese`s "-san". "Khunying" is generally use on Women with high social standing. Officially it is a title given by the royal family to selected fews each year. "Than Puu Ying" is a higher title than "Khun Ying" and is the highest obtainable by modern day`s Thai women.
