[edit] Purpose?

Since May 2007, WP:MOSNUM has prohibited superscripts for ordinal suffixes,[1] and this rule can now be found in the 10th bullet of #Exceptions. Shouldn't this template—along with {{st}}, {{nd}} and {{rd}}—be deprecated? If so, should these templates be quickly replaced with non-superscripted text in all the pages that transclude them? —LOL (talk) 01:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

If that line of the MOS is a mandatory universal policy, than this template is indeed not needed. However, many pages still choose to use superscript ordinal numbers where it looks better, so that line of the MOS may need to work on getting stronger consensus from the community before it starts cracking down on useful templates. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 03:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I replied at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Suffix of ordinal numbers. Thanks for taking this up there. —LOL (talk) 05:38, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't appear that I will be getting any more responses at WT:MOSNUM soon, so I'll start replacing the templates if no legitimate counterarguments are given by the end of the weekend. —LOL (talk) 01:19, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
