[edit] Systolic geometry for a beginner slated for deletion

I responded on the deletion page to your nomination. If the article survives the nomination I will address the concerns such as references, etc. Katzmik (talk) 13:12, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

P.S. What is a how-to article? I am not sure I understand exactly the nature of this criticism (apart from the specific issue of this particular article). Katzmik (talk) 14:53, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I actually nominated that article for deletion in ignorance of the guidelines permitting articles which are generally-accessible introductions to a topic which already has its own article. In light of the discovery of such guidelines, I've gone ahead and withdrawn my nomination. Sorry for the inconvenience! tgies (talk) 01:35, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem, everybody seems to have enjoyed the discussion. Incidentally, it would be good to add an internal reference in the section Introduction to systolic geometry#property of a centrally symmetric body, the subsection Introduction to systolic geometry#Pu's inequality. I am not too good at internal links, could you perhaps help me with this? 132.70.50.117 (talk) 13:13, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Chepang language

I just created the stub; I really know nothing about Chepang. All I could find were some references at http://www.southasiabibliography.de/Bibliography/Tibeto-Burman/Chepang/chepang.html Good luck. Paxsimius (talk) 02:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of SriVidya

Please do not move pages to nonsensical titles. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to learn more about moving pages, please see the guidelines on this subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. tgies (talk) 12:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:SPUI

Just beacause he hasn't edited in a while does not mean that you can leave him rude messages. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 15:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

SPUI is a friend of mine. It is an inside joke which he appreciates. Suggest letting users take care of their own user space matters unless you are certain an abuse has taken place. tgies (talk) 23:40, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Somebody Else's Problem

I see you just added {{refimprove}} and {{unencyclopedic}} tags to this article, and I thought it would be useful if I explain what I am doing there.

  • This phrase has passed into popular culture, and variations on it have been used in many different contexts. I will add at least a dozen references to use of this phrase, including uses by leading politicians referring to issues of widespread public concern.
  • I've asked a Psychology student to advise on the best links for the perception side.
  • In respect of the Douglas Adams book, there's no article on this piece of imaginary technology. I will try to add some further references to the SEP field. For example, the greater the distance of the observer to the matter, the more likely it is to be seen as "somebody else's problem". This is perhaps unsurprising to a psychologist but it raises the possibility that the field may be amplified rather than attenuated by distance. This might allow a reference to the real issue which is "locality of reference" etc.
  • There may also be scope for discussion of Douglas Adam's intentions when he described this phenomenon.

I will remove the {{refimprove}} tag when I have built up a body of references. But I'm not sure where you are coming from on the {{unencyclopedic}} tag, so please can you explain? I'll look for your comment here on your talk page. Thanks - Pointillist (talk) 00:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

The phrase is originally from the popular culture, so that point is nil. I really doubt there are so many examples of someone using the phrase in a way which could definitively be traced back to the Douglas Adams book.
I personally suspect that this is a bit of a sketchy topic for an article, but I defer to the judgement of other editors to confirm these suspicions. I added the {{unencyclopedic}} tag to draw critical attention to the article to find out if other editors think the same thing. Anyone is welcome to remove it, though I'd recommend that you not do so yourself.
Either way, nice writing. tgies (talk) 00:49, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for user:tgies

user:tgies is being used on this article. I notice the user info page specifies that the son of a bitch is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the user info page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this guy in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the user info page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your personality is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. I'm warning you.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other jerkasses used on this page. Note that any fair use entities lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on this thingo right here. If you have any questions please ask them at the Clusterfuck Emporium. Thank you.
