Coordinates: Tezu is a census town and the headquarters of Lohit district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
The ancient inhabitant of this beautiful land of valley and rivers are the Mishmi tribes. This tribe still has a King and Queens residing in the district headquarters of Tezu. The Mishmi tribes have a rich tradition and customs dating back to the times of Mahabharata. It is said that Rukmini of Mahabharata was a Mishmi Damsel.

As of 2001 India census[2], Tezu had a population of 15,014. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Tezu has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 61%. In Tezu, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
