Loop 256 is a loop highway around Palestine, Texas. Loop 256 is a 5-lane highway around most of the city. The exception which is still 2 lanes is the portion connecting US 84 E to US 79 E on the northeast side. The southeast side of the loop, from its intersections with US 287/SH 19 S to US 79/84 W, is the only part that is heavily commercially developed.

The road first appears on maps in 1964 as a six-mile road on Palestine's east side, connecting U.S. Highway 287 with State Highway 155. During the 1970s, 1980s, and the early 1990s the loop was expanded to finally form a complete circle around the core of the city.
