State Highway 51 is a short state route entirely in Hansford County, Texas, just south of Spearman.

[edit] History

The original SH 51 was designated by 1939 as the route from the Texas/Oklahoma state line north of Dalhart through the western panhandle to McCamey in southwest Texas. It replaced SH 143 and the majority of SH 137. In 1956, it was redirected southwest over the former route of U.S. Highway 67 to the entrance of Big Bend National Park. The entire route was cancelled in 1959 when U.S. Highway 385 was transferred to the west.
