State Highway 166 or SH 166 is a state highway that runs through ranchland in far west Texas southwest of Fort Davis. The highway was designated by 1933 from Fort Davis to the Fawlkes Ranch to the northwest. By 1933, the route had been extended to make a loop through the ranchlands and mountainous areas of the Davis Mountains west of Fort Davis. The current loop reaches an elevation of about 6700 feet, making it the highest public highway in Texas[2].
