I concur with your assessment Deatonjr. It does appear that a rewrite would be in order.Jar3079 (talk) 04:21, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Jurisdiction
I always thought highway law enforcement was the responsibility of the sheriff's office in each county. Is that not true, or is there overlap? -Rolypolyman (talk) 14:50, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, the Sheriff is considered the highest officer for his county and the duties of the Sheriff Department varies from department to department, based on their policies and size. Sheriff Dept’s have a patrol section, but in many cases, the deputies spend there time responding to calls in the county. They have responsibility for civil process as well. So an overlap is possible, but in the case of the Texas Highway Patrol, the THP is tasked with general police traffic supervision on the rural highways of Texas by the Texas Legislature.Jar3079 (talk) 04:09, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
