[edit] Quail Hollow Club

How did you do that? Where can find more options like that for references? IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!! (talk) 02:09, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Outstanding job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate you adding the tournaments that Finsterwald, Nichols and Rosburg won early in their careers. Not being able to complete those PGA win templates was driving me crazy. I was about to do something crazy like go to Barnes & Noble and buy a golf encyclopedia. --Hokeman 02:57, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Tew, I have a question for you (put answer on my discussion page if you would be so kind): Was the Sam Snead Festival played in the early 60's a regular PGA Tour event or a non-Tour event? Did it evolve into the 500 Festival?--Hokeman 04:25, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Hey, Thanks for the great championship table you added to the Jug Mcspaden page. J. Van Meter 22:10, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the help in making the Frank Thomas page much nicer looking ...... I thought those boxes were likely overkill, but your fix was just what it needed.TeganX7 03:26, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for adding Bert Yancey wins

Can you do the same for Larry Mowry and Homero Blancas? You do a great job adding content to golfer articles, but you are shrouded in mystery. I want to talk with you sometime about a big project I'm planning. --Hokeman 23:53, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Seeking your input on a golf-related project I'm about to start

Tewapack, I'm about to start a major golf-related project - a List of Defunct Tournaments. Since you have done extensive work on golf pages, I'd like your thoughts and input. Please see my User page near the bottom for more detail. Thank you for your time and attention. --Hokeman 03:00, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Els

I just posted here Talk:Golfers with most European Tour wins about the WGC discrepancy, but it looks like you've fixed it already. The European Tour website still says he has had 23 wins though. Catchpole 19:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

I just compiled his major championship wins details, but I'm missing the 54-hole lead for the 1910 win, and the nationality for 1908 runner-up Tom Ball. Supertigerman 19:27, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I couldn't find two 54-hole leads and two nationalities. Supertigerman 14:53, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry (again) couldn't find two 54-hole leads. Supertigerman 15:27, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings From Fgf2007

Greetings Tewapack ---

If you've been wanting to me meet somewhere online to discuss any of my golf page contribs, just let me know.

Thanx-A-Lot and Enjoy, Frank

[edit] Question regarding infoboxes

how do you make a field optional? Specifically for the Template:Infobox Golf Tournament, how do you make the "To-par" section optional (because it is not necessarily applicable to match play tournaments)? Supertigerman 22:10, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I haven't got a clue :-) Tewapack 05:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ernie Els

you have written that he made 49 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour, but according to the official website's list, it's 46. Supertigerman 04:16, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

My bad, I've changed it Tewapack 05:29, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment

I've starting assessing some golfer biographies for WikiProject Golf, so I wanted your opinion on the importance scale. Should we establish anything concrete? For example, 30 PGA Tour wins or 5 major championships automatically are of Top importance? Specifically, I wanted you opinion on Vijay Singh. I think he should be top. When I looked at other bios, I felt that they were underrated. I recently changed Ernie Els from Mid to High, though perhaps he should be Top. Phil Mickelson is currently High as well, but should he be Top too? Supertigerman 15:05, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps I do not understand the importance scale. Wikiproject Biography's importance scale has to with how important the people are and how likely those pages are to be visited. Some other scales define the Low to mean that those articles are not in need of improvement, and Top means that they need major revisions. How does WikiProject Golf define them? Personally, I think WP Bio's scale makes more sense because it literally means how important are these golfers in terms of their play and influence. Supertigerman 15:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Golf Tournament

Hey I think the aggregate, to-par score records, and defending champion lines should not have the nationalities of the players (the flags). Flags are simply eye candy and do not add to the infobox. Rather, I think the year in which the record was made should be written. For example, for the Masters, "-18 Tiger Woods (1997)" is what should be written in the to-par line. What do you think? Supertigerman 19:51, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Much more useful info - i.e. is it a long-standing record or a new one? Tewapack 05:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help with Tommy Armour III

Thank you so much for all of what you've done on Tommy Armour III. It's been so great! However, I have searched the world wide web for a public domain photo of TAIII, but I couldn't find one. Could you help me? Wharrel 21:01, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I'm getting ready to get back in the game soon

Tew, You've been doing a great job adding content to golfer articles. I just wanted to let you know that I'm getting ready to get back in the game of editing golfer pages after about a 6 month hiatus. Please feel free to share ideas/feedback on my talk page --Hokeman 02:19, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Congratulations!

Congratulations on reaching your 10,000th edit! Keep up the good work! :) Supertigerman 21:39, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PGA Tour Seasons

Great job on detailing every season on the Champions Tour. I think it would be great to have the same setup for the PGA Tour seasons, since as of now, there is only one (2006 PGA Tour). Undoubtedly this would be a tougher task given the number of seasons is much greater, but I think if we follow the same format as the Champions/Senior Tour years, it could be simpler. Let me know if you were/are planning to do this, so we can work on it together. Supertigerman 23:03, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

I am planning on similar pages for the PGA Tour, back to 1980 based on info on pgatour.com and back to 1970 based on golfstats.com. Before that it gets sketchy. Tewapack 05:27, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Golf infobox

Surely if The Open Championship is to be inaccurately referred to as the "British Open", The Masters Tournament should be equally inaccurately referred to as the "US Masters"? LondonStatto 16:25, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PGA Championship Match Play Era

Dale Arnett and I are thinking of changing the format of all the PGA Championship results in timelines from 1916-1957 in order to better reflect the match play format. Since you in most cases created the timelines, where did you get the information for the match play results? golfstats.com only dates back to 1958, and the official website only lists winners and runners up. Thanks. Supertigerman 20:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

http://www.pgamediaguide.com/pgachampionship_yearsearch_action.cfm has a description and bracket for each year although some of them are screwed up and I consulted newspaper accounts. Tewapack 20:56, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Instead of writing "R128", "R64", "R32", and "R16" since those simply inform the reader of how big the bracket was, how about writing the round in which the player lost in context of the tournament? Given that we have the brackets, we know which round the players lost in. I think it would be better to write "1R", "2R", "3R" and so on until QF, SF, and F (similar to the tennis timelines). Supertigerman 19:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

The options:

Opt 1 Opt 2 Opt 3
1 1 1
2 F F
T3 SF SF
T5 QF QF
T9 R16 2R,3R,4R
T17 R32 1R,2R,3R
T33 R64 1R,2R
T65 R128 1R

In the context of the majors results tables, I think Option 1 or 2 above are more informative than Option 3. Since these PGA Ch. matchplay results are intermixed with stroke play results, I think Option 1 is best, I can live with Option 2, but I think Option 3 would be confusing because there is no way to distinguish field sizes in the table so no way to determine if "2R", for example, is good or bad finish.

Note that in 1957 they had playoffs of positions 3-8.

[edit] detailed wins tables

It doesn't hurt putting them in even for people who have only won a few times, it gives more information also, just leave it there.

[edit] Need your help

On the 1934 Masters Tournament page, there is one man, E. French, who I do not know anything about. All I know is that he shot 70-83=153 in the first two rounds and then withdrew. Since you are good at finding things, I just thought I'd ask if you could find out his first name and nationality. Thanks. Supertigerman 03:04, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 2007 PGA Championship

Hey I noticed you posted the scoring averages for each round on the page, and I was wondering where you found that information. Thanks!. :) Supertigerman 03:42, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I simple took the published results and calculated the averages by round. Tewapack 05:25, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I didn't realize you actually did it manually. Nice! Supertigerman 16:59, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings Again from Fgf2007

Yo, Tewpack --

Just wanted to compliment you on keeping the wiki golf pages in check. I realize it's a lot of work, especially when we're talking about a site where so many people can come in and make changes ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous.

As for myself, I've decided to leave the task of the major wiki edits to others. Maybe every once in a while I might add or correct some little item as long as it is relevant to the particular wiki page. But that's it.

I have my own web-site, and since I'm the sole web-master, i can do as I wish - so that's fine with me.

Feel free to visit my site (links on my wiki user page) at your leisure.

Thanx-a-lot, Frank Fgf2007 (talk) 02:32, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Happy 2008 from Fgf2007 || About Accenture

Originally, I wasn't thinking about a separate records section on the Accenture Match Play page. Many thanks for correcting that particular oversight.

[edit] Template:Men's Professional Golf Tours

I think I have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier tours down. I don't know what to do with the tours placed in the Other Tours section. Wondering if you knew, I can't find any information on tour rankings.

Thanks.

[edit] Tour Championship Page Addition on 9-11-2007

Greetings Tewpack ...

I have added purse breakdown information on the Tour Championship page.

I have also added an explanation of my edit work - in particular, the manner in which the purse breakdown is displayed - on the Tour Championship Discussion Page

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank Fgf2007 23:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Viking Classic

I was going to add a tournament infobox to the page but when I was trying to figure out the tournament scoring record I ran into a problem. Before 1986 the tournament was called the Magnolia State Classic. On pgatour.com and golfstats.com, they only document the winners of the Viking Classic back to 1986. Do you know if the Magnolia State Classic is some other tournament and someone got mixed up?

Winners at pgatour.com

Ok thanks. michfan2123 19:47, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help needed Don Iverson page

Tew, I need your help. I just did a page for Don Iverson. Two sources said that he had two official PGA Tour wins; however, the B.C. Open official site says that he is one of eight players to earn his first PGA Tour win at the BC Open in 1975. My question is this: Was his other win --at the 1972 Shreveport Open Classic-- an official PGA Tour money win? Thanks--Hokeman 18:02, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for providing me with the answer to this question. And thanks for fixing the Johnny Revolta page - I didn't even notice that the WI Open wins in '34 and '35 were listed as PGA Tour events.--Hokeman 20:10, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] State golf opens

Do you think we should start a category for them? And if so what should it be called? I had no idea about that Washington Open page until just now. There are others I have seen like the Wisconsin Open and the Illinois Open. Would make it easier to track them. michfan2123 21:16, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I just realized that you just made the Washington Open page, I did not realize that. Anyway, the category would still help out. michfan2123 21:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The old Hoke needs your help again

Tew, I'm currently working on DeWitt Weaver (golfer). Question 1: One of my sources says that his first PGA Tour win was at the U.S. Professional Match Play Championship; the other calls it Liggett and Myers Open Match Play Championship. Which is correct? Question 2: One source says he turned pro in 1963 and the other says 1964. Ditto. As always, a million thanks for your help.--Hokeman 18:28, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. I changed it back (to Liggett and Myers) after I found this [1]--Hokeman 20:08, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] where2golf.com

I see you added more information to the Piccadilly Medal from that site. I did not know about it until now. How reliable is it? There are many red links for old PGA Tour events, maybe that site has them. I see that they have results for the 500 Festival Open, it shows winners in 1962, 64, 66 and 68. I am not sure if that list is complete. If it is a reliable source, I will make a bunch of new tourney pages.michfan2123 20:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Yea, after looking around I saw the same thing. It really kills me. I really want to know about these old PGA Tour events, I can not find the information anywhere. michfan2123 21:04, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Do not delete UF Alumni category

If any person attends a university for over 2 total semesters, then they are considered an alumni. It does not matter if they graduated. Also Gator golfers did attend the University of Florida. It would be wrong not to give them credit for the work they did in the classroom. Thanks --Bobby Wilcox —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.253.37.233 (talk) 13:07, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I've gotten as far as I can with St. Paul Open Invitational

Have a crack at it. Thanks.--Hokeman 17:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Tew, I just did Lucky International Open but was unable to find the last winner. Also, if you wouldn't mind have a go at the Motor City Open.--Hokeman 05:11, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] U.S. Open

Instead of making a page for every tournament I am doing this. I will eventually do it for all U.S. Open tournaments. There a bunch of guys listed whose home country I am not sure of. If you know where they are from, it would be great. michfan2123 05:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PGA Tour seasons

awesome!!!! michfan2123 (talk) 14:14, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Didn't want to keep creating new sections on your talk, check out Brandt Snedeker, I quickly added info on his rookie of the year season. There might be some grammatical errors, I gotta run though, I will add more later. michfan2123 (talk) 16:10, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your great work!

  • Thanks for the great job filling out Dave Ragan, and Kansas City Open in Sandbox 1.--Hokeman (talk) 22:11, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Francis Ouimet

Why did you de-link Open de France/French Open in the list on Francis Ouimet? Are these separate tournaments? If so do you have any information and/or sources on the "French Open"?
I forgot to sign the above, and thanks for the related information.—MJBurrage(TC) 19:29, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] J.B. Holmes undo

What are u doing with the J.B. y did u change that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.128.57.8 (talk) 05:39, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

I echo the above question, although I hope to express it in somewhat more dignified fashion. Why did you revert closing up their initials? It is pretty standard practice in English to close up initials like that, and it's how both players' names are expressed at the PGA TOUR's website. J.B. Holmes' website even expresses it in that fashion (Trahan apparently doesn't have one). MrArticleOne (talk) 03:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Field Size in Golf Tournament Infobox?

I have a friend who just got reshuffled on the Nationwide Tour/Q-School list where he'll most likely only have a chance to get into 156 player fields. I wanted to see the field sizes for the remaining events this year, but am having a very hard time finding this information. Even the tournament home pages seem to lack this. The only place to date I've found this info is on USA Today's fantasy golf tournament articles they publish for each event, such as this one about the Buick:

http://fantasygolf.usatoday.com/content/column.asp?sport=GOL&column=195&articleid=29858

Can we add this field to the Golf Tournament Infobox? I think their location is nice, below the purse.

P.S. I was referred to you for this question, I assume you have domain over this infobox. I'd be happy to help and populate this field in each tournament page (I believe there are 48 tournaments on the PGA Tour in 2008). Since I'm having a hard time finding this info, I may just do this one tournament at a time when the fantasy golf article is published for each event. Then, by the end of 2008 all tournaments will have this information.

[edit] T for ties in majors for golf

I was thinking it looked better not to put the T's in the round updates for the 2004 PGA Championship because all the other majors on Wikipedia don't have them. Also when you look at most leaderboards in golf it doesn't put the T's on them. I wanted to ask you before changing it back. Thanks

[edit] Frank Thomas

First, I don't think there is a need for all-time rosters. The categories have all the players in them. If the only difference is that the all-time rosters have managers in them, then I think that the all-time rosters should be deleted and managers added to the team categories.

Second, I think all living people not just baseball players should have the place of birth in the parenthesis. Once a person dies then I can understand incorporating the place of birth and place of death into the article and the deletion of them in the parenthesis. Also, I would rather the baseball player articles be consistent over adhering to some stupid wikipedia policy. There is no way that the thousands and thousands of baseball player articles will all be changed removing the place of birth and adding it into the article; that will take more time than any person or group is willing to commit to it. Jackal4 (talk) 22:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Capitalization et al.

The Manual of Style is about Wikipedia style, and I do not dispute that in the article's textual discussion of something (e.g., The Tour Championship), it ought to be rendered in normal capitalization. It is very ambiguous whether the Manual of Style entry you mention applies to our table here per se. Even a casual inspection of the Manual of Style entry makes it plain that it was written with the textual discussions of topics in the encyclopedia in mind; its emphasis is on not unduly calling attention to any one thing (but in the context of a table that's a list of tournament names, some of which are even bolded to emphasize their particular importance, this is not an issue) and avoiding ambiguity in sentence design/construction (which, again, isn't the issue here because of the presentation of the information). I am not content to accept a reference to the MOS in this context as such; it ought to be specifically discussed and addressed in this particular context. MrArticleOne (talk) 05:03, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
