Kennedy was born in England, the daughter of Daska (née Ivanovic-Banac), who was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Geoffrey Farrer Kennedy.[1]

In 1958, while still a minor, she eloped with the artist Dominick Elwes, with whom she had three sons: actor Cary Elwes, film producer Cassian Elwes, and artist Damian Elwes (sometime husband May 1986 to 1991 of Christina Oxenberg, sister of actress Catherine Oxenberg). At age 29, during her first marriage, she dated Hollywood actor Mel Ferrer. Her second, and current husband is the Jewish-American, Hollywood executive Elliott Kastner (b. 7 January 1933), with whom she has no issue. Her daughter is Milica Kastner, the film producer.[2]
