[edit] Relationships
[edit] Sheriff Jim Valenti & Kyle Valenti
In Roswell, she lives with Sheriff Valenti and his son, Kyle. Kyle and Tess were, at first, quite attracted to each other, but in the end became more like brother and sister, with Kyle even once referring to her as his sister when one of his friends spoke about her sexually.
[edit] Isabel Evans-Ramirez
At the beginning, she had a sister-like relationship with Isabel, most likely because they shared similar interests, such as boys, make-up etc.
[edit] Liz Parker-Evans
Tess's main rival in the series is Liz, who is also in love with Max, and whom Max himself is in love with. Tess and Liz would probably have gotten along had it not been for Tess's destiny/obsession to be with Max. However, in the episode "Four Aliens and a Baby" (season 3) Liz was the only person Tess trusted when she needed help with her major sacrifice.
[edit] Powers
Tess was the most powerful alien of the four because she had used her powers from the beginning, and with Nasedo's help, she improved her abilities.
Her main power is to "Mindwarp" people, making them see things that are not real. She can temporarily create illusions by manipulating the actual reality people are seeing. The first time we saw her using this power was in the episode Tess, Lies and Videotape, against Max.
She has used the power at various times throughout the series, the most notable being when she mindwarped Alex for months in order to make him translate the destiny book she needed to use to return home, as established by Nasedo's deal with Kivar.
She was also able to change the molecular structure of items, as can the rest of the human-alien hybrids.
[edit] Biography
When first introduced to Tess, it seems that she is obsessed with Max, and fulfilling her destiny (by being with him). However, at the end of season 2, we discover that her true goal and purpose: to return to Antar, pregnant with Max's child.
Thanks to Nasedo, her powers were much more developed than the others', so she tried to teach them how to use their own powers, too.
[edit] Previous life
Tess is an alien hybrid from the planet Antar. In her previous life, she was known as Ava, she was married to Zan (Max Evans' previous self) and she was the queen of Antar. Along with Max, Isabel (Max's sister) and Michael (Isabel's husband on Antar and Max's second-in command), she is one of the Royal Four of Antar. She appears to be the only one of the four aliens with any memory of their previous lives, although this is not made clear.
[edit] Early life
Tess came to Earth with the others but she left her pod after they had left theirs. She was raised by another alien, Nasedo, who had apparently been sent to protect them. However, he had previously made a deal with Kivar (the enemy of the Royal Four) 40 years before, that consisted into returning home with Max's son (with Tess' help) and deliver Max, Michael and Isabel to Kivar, who would have killed them. Eventually, Tess was the one who did carry over the deal, since Nasedo died at the beginning of season 2.
[edit] Season One
Tess turns up late in season one, in the episode Crazy, as the new girl at Roswell High. She almost immediately makes friends with Isabel, who notes that Tess puts sugar on her yoghurt, something Isabel herself admits she is prone to do.
Tess later goes round to Isabel and Max's house, where she meets Max and Michael. Isabel quickly explains that Tess is her friend and new at school. This does not stop Max and Michael being suspicious.
Tess is quick to point out Alex's crush on Isabel, and when asked if there was anyone she had her eye on, she admits that she is disappointed that Max is unavailable. Isabel tells her she has not got a chance, that Max is a total goner. However, Max begins to have explicit hallucinations about Tess without controlling them. Max talks to Michael about it, and Michael goes around to her house, discovering that there is not a single thing in it. He quickly hides when the army show up.
He later tells Max and Isabel about this. Isabel defends Tess, while Max is worried because he cannot control his fantasies about her, and does not understand what is happening to him.
Isabel goes round to Tess' house, where she meets her father, Ed. Tess explains the house being empty was because of the movers arriving late. Ed appears to work in the army. Tess tries to avoid letting Isabel help with moving her stuff, saying that she is her guest and should not being doing any heavy lifting. Isabel gets suspicious, and Max, Michael and herself start to wonder who Tess really is.
Later, Michael finds a hidden camera into his apartment and with Liz's help they use it in order to spy on Tess and her father. Eventually, they discover that Tess is an alien like them. At the beginning, Max and the others think that Tess is Nasedo, the man River Dog talked about, whom Michael was searching for in the other episodes.
Eventually, they discover that Tess is just like them, an alien-human hybrid, and that she was housed in the pod chamber with them. Even though Max, Michael and Isabel didn't remember who she was for 10 years, they suddenly remember her when this is explained to them.
