Yep! I had it when I was 15. I also tried to wait it out until the pain became unbearable. Had one removed and the other one attached.

[edit] I had this.

It hurts. And yeah, the surgery is bad. I had surgery after two days; had it removed.

I waited 3 days thinking it would go away until I couldn't endure the pain any more. Then I had one removed. The surgeon fixed the other one to prevent it from twisting and said I'd still be able to father children. I learned my lesson and hopefully more teens are educated about testicular torsion, because I have a feeling many are too embarrassed to come forward, like I was.

  • I just returned from spending the night at the hospital following surgery. Only one was affected. I edited the wiki to show that suturing the unaffected testicle may be optional (it was in my case... I opted not to fix it). I still have both of my boys.Boonjava 21:50, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ouch

i had this when i was 20 and now 8 years on i cant have any children infact my sperm count is 0 is this because of the torsion ? Can any one tell me.

Maybe. Testicular torsion leads to decrease supply to your testes, which makes sperms. Often the other the opposite teste can also be effected in that the body generates antibodies to the sperms. Hope this helps. Pediaforum.com

I had this when I was 12 years old and wish I wouldnt have waited out of embarrassment. I lost one and the other was sutured, 18 years later no issues to mention and I have 2 children. Now going in for the V go figure!

[edit] I got lucky

I woke up one morning with an excruciating pain in my stomach, soreness of the genitals, and had mild nausea. The feeling is most easily described as being hit or kicked in the genitals, but the pain is continuous. I thought i could wait it out but the pain became unbearable so i had someone take me to the hospital. By the time i got there the pain had receded and i was able to walk and act normal as if there was nothing wrong. They performed a urinalysis and ultrasound to examine possibility of infection or testicular torsion. it was diagnosed as testicular torsion and i went into the operating room about an hour later.

The affected testicle was untwisted and both where "stitched" to the scrotum and then the scrotum was stitched back up. I was asleep for the entire operation and a day later i am only a little sore when i walk around. I do have a prescription of oxycodone in cease of sever pain. I am told not to lift anything over 10 lbs for 6-8 weeks and should stay out of work for at least a week. (actual time out of work will be determined by follow-up appointment.) I am also taking antibiotics. Fortunately I still have both testicles, both of which are in tact and I may still one day have children of my own :-) If anyone experiences those symptoms you must get to your doctor immediately to avoid losing a testicle do to loss of blood flow. You only have about 6 hours save it 100%. Anything passed 6 hours and the chances of saving it decrease.

Feel free to post any questions!
