Editor civility is more important than any article's content. WP:CIVIL is more important than WP:NPOV. If an editor is going to edit for a while, Civil is the dominent policy. My basis for telling you this is that an editor can be blocked for the following things:

  • WP:PAIN (incivility)
  • WP:3R (reverting an article to a preferred edit 3 times in 24 hours)
  • and finally, editing toward one's own point of view. But this last is rarely done and is a buffered action which requires a fair amount of collaberation by experienced editors, while an appeal at WP:PAIN can get you blocked by a single experienced editor, immediately.
Regarding the content of articles, Wikipedia's editing policies are based on a "non-negotiable" datum which is outlined, WP:NPOV. Implied but unstated is that 40 million published words might be important to one editor while to another editor, a one page essey appearing on a personal website is important. If several editors consider the one page editors important but only one editor considers the 40 million published words important, the broadly published point of view will be difficult to include in an article. This is a slight exaggeration, but I state it to communicate a guiding clue about disputed articles. Wikipedia policy is clear that widely published sources be used and be primarily used. But if several editors together consider a single, poorly published source to be important to an article then Wikipedia policy does not provide really clear direction. The religious articles, especially Scientology and Islam are widely recognized on here as areas of ongoing editor disagreement. Thus, editor civility comes into play as editors work together.
The "history" tab at the top of every article's page which is next to the "edit this page" shows (almost) every edit made to an article and is available to everyone and includes user name or IP address. There is a software program that aids established editors who watch for edits made by anonomous IP addresses. With a few mouseclicks vandalisms can be reverted to an earlier edit and it helps keep Wikipedia relatively free from vandalisms.

Some of the editing is done by people who have a personal website which is critical of Scientology. Terryeo 14:24, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
