[edit] Synopsis

[edit] Introduction

The author predicts the end of cheap, conventional petroleum "soon," and the exhaustion of natural gas and coal by the end of the 21st century, and if humans burn all the recoverable fossil fuel, the earth may no longer support human life. For civilization to survive, humans must learn to live without fossil fuels.

Briefly surveys alternative energy sources, hydrogen fuel, advanced batteries for use in transportation. Mentions that problem is more of an engineering problem than a scientific problem, since most of the underlying scientific principles are well-understood.
