The Silver Honor Guard

Team Origins

The Silver Honor Guard is an AFJROTC rifle exhibition drill team. The team is based out of AFJROTC unit NC-032, Terry Sanford High School, Fayetteville NC. The team was founded in the winter of 1999 by Anthony Shaw. Considered a visionary by many, Shaw saw the potential in the small but dedicated team which was placed under his command. Anthony Shaw The original team members were put through a grueling training process which introduced them to advanced exhibition drill techniques which Shaw devised from the study of national championship teams. From this training the Silver Honor Guard emerged to claim several victories in local drill meets throughout the Spring 2000 drill season. The team concluded its season by attending the National High School Drill Team Championships in Daytona Beach Florida. This experience imparted upon the team members a strong sense of the dedication required to become a championship team.

2000-2001

2001-2002

In the fall of 2001, The Silver Honor Guard lost several of its experienced members due to unfortunate circumstances. Two team commanders were fired and replaced before the second month of the school year. The team was nearly disbanded by the school's AFJROTC instructors. Only the dedicated core members of the team were able to prevent the team from falling apart. A new team was constructed out of first year cadets. Led by Benjamin Secrist and Joshua Reagan, the Silver Guard was rebuilt with all new members and a new style. The slow and traditional style of drill which had found success in the previous year was abandoned in favor of the fast paced and precise styles which were popular which many nationally ranked teams. Thought at first to be simply a rebuilding year, the 2002 Silver Honor Guard went on to win 1st Place Overall awards at 5 out of 7 drill meets it attended that year.

2002-2003

Three drill seasons in the making, The Silver Honor Guard returned to the National High School Drill Team Championships in 2003. For the first time since 2000, The Silver Guard competed against the greatest teams in the world. This team contained the last two members of the original Silver Guard from its inception in 2000. Joshua Reagan and Daniel Jones returned to guide the team through its greatest challenge.
