Terry Moriarty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Terry Moriarty was an Australian rules footballer who played with Perth in the WANFL.

During the Second World War the WANFL imposed an age restricton on the league meaning that only players under the age of 18 could compete. It was under this ruling that Moriarty, a half back flanker, made his debut for Perth in the 1942 season and finished the year as the club's Best and Fairest. The following season he became one of the youngest ever winners of the Sandover Medal and also defended his Best and Fairest Trophy. Perhaps not surprisingly he kept his spot in the side when the league returned to normal after the war and went on to amass a club record 253 games before his retirement in 1958. He was a member of Perth's 1955 premiership side and represented Western Australia at interstate football on nine occasions.
