The film received generally favorable reviews from critics. As of January 5, 2008, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported that 81% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 32 reviews.[1] Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 75 out of 100, based on 17 reviews.[2]

Kenneth Turan of Los Angeles Times named it the 3rd best film of 2007 (along with Into Great Silence)[3], and J. Hoberman of The Village Voice named it the 8th best film of 2007.[3]
