Terrelle Pryor (born 1990 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania) is an American football player for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He is going into his freshman year at Ohio State University. Pryor is considered the most versatile athlete in Pennsylvania high school sports since Tom Clements.[2] Pryor is widely regarded as the nation's top football prospect, as he was named “Junior of the Year” by Rivals.com[3] and is currently ranked the #1 prep player in the nation by Rivals and a variety of other recruiting services. Pryor hoped to be a two sport athlete and play both football and basketball in college, but he chose to focus on football. When asked if he would prefer to play in the NFL or the NBA, Pryor said, “The NBA. You can play longer because you don't get beat up as much.”[4]

Pryor is widely praised for his outstanding athleticism. CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming called Pryor “a unique cross between Jevon Kearse and Vince Young, a real freak.”[5] Critics, however, have questioned Pryor's passing ability.[6] Pryor has signed with Ohio State University to play football, though he will not be playing college basketball.[7]

[edit] High school career

In 2006, Pryor led the Jayhawks to their first Pennsylvania (PIAA) state championship game, where they lost by 1 point to the #1 ranked class AA Warriors of Wilson Area High School. Wilson lost the Pennsylvania (PIAA) state championship the year before.[8] In the 2007 Pennsylvania state semi-finals against Wilmington, Terrelle became the first player in Pennsylvania history to run for 4,000 yards and also throw for 4,000 yards. The following year, Pryor led the Jeannette Jayhawks to their first-ever Pennsylvania PIAA State championship.[9][10] Pryor directed the Jayhawks to score a PA state record 860 points.[11] Pryor's accomplishments included being the two-time Pennsylvania player of the year, the offensive player of the year and the MVP of the All-American bowl.[12][13]

Since taking over at Quarterback for the Jeannette Jayhawks in 2005, Terrelle has drawn numerous comparisons to former Texas Longhorn and current Tennessee Titans star quarterback Vince Young.[14]

Following the PIAA basketball state quarterfinal against North Catholic High School, Pryor and other teammates were involved in a physical altercation with the team they had just defeated, 86-60. The schools were placed on probation, but no players were suspended.[15] Pryor then led the Jeannette Jayhawks to win the 2008 Pennsylvania (PIAA) AA boys Basketball championship.[16]

[edit] College recruiting

Pryor is widely considered the top recruit of the Class of 2008. Throughout his high school career, Pryor acquired numerous scholarship offers that he narrowed down over time. By his senior year, Pryor's top interests were Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, West Virginia, Pitt, LSU, Oregon, and Florida. Sports Illustrated called Pryor's announcement "the most anticipated in history."[17]

In December 2007, following Rich Rodriguez's departure from West Virginia University to the University of Michigan, Pryor announced an interest in attending Michigan.

Pryor originally intended to announce his decision on February 6, National Signing Day, but later changed his mind, stating he still had not decided between Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and Penn State.[18][19]

Following the Jeanette basketball team's state championship victory on March 15, Pryor stated he would decide within a week of what school to attend.[20]

On March 19, 2008 Pryor announced at a press conference that he would attend The Ohio State University.[21]
