Terre Haute North (THN), or simply North, was opened in the fall of 1971 for grades 10-12. The 9th grade was added during the '93/'94 school year. The school mascot is the Patriot and the school colors are red, white and navy. Approximately 2,250 students are currently enrolled at North, in grades 9-12. The teacher to student ratio is 1-18, and the average expenditure per student is $8.847.[1]

Terre Haute North is on a trimester schedule. Students have five seventy-minute periods per day every day for twelve weeks. THN uses the Core 40 curriculum. The school takes high priority on the success of both students and alumni.

Notable alumni include: Anthony Thompson, class of 1986, a record-setting running back at Indiana University where he was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy voting in December 1989. Thompson received 1003 votes to winner Andre Ware's 1073 votes. Steve Weatherford, Punter of the New Orleans Saints also attended North Vigo where he played on the football, soccer, basketball, and track teams.
It is a school with a solid academic record. Teachers and administration work with a wide variety of students in an effort to ensure life success.

There are 23 varsity sports teams THN: boys' and girls' cross country, Marching Band, soccer, tennis, golf, chess, basketball, swimming & diving and track & field; boys' football, wrestling, and baseball; and girls' cheerleading, gymnastics and softball. Terre Haute North has been part of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference since 1996. At one time, they were embroiled in a controversy over their use of the copyrighted New England Patriots swept head logo. The school has announced a search for a new logo.
