[edit] History

The Teresina Metro was established on August 15, 1989, with the objective of establishing a high-capacity transport for the urban agglomeration of Teresina. The works were initiated at the end of 1989. To reduce costs of the works, the project made the most the existing rail line which cuts Teresina, adopted the diesel trains sponsored by RFFSA who arrived to cover the stretch between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, and also maintained the bilota metric existing in their paths. Line 1 of the subway entered into trial operational in November 1990 and was commercially launched on June 5, 1991. Why not have a station in the city center and no bus terminals in their stations daily demand no more than 5 thousand users, but with the current construction of the station flag in the city center to demand daily passengers should arrive to 10 thousand users.
