For names of chemical compounds, prefixes are not considered part of the name when it comes to things like capitalization, alphabetization, etc. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chemicals/Style_guidelines#Capitalization. --Ed (Edgar181) 18:57, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

According to the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics 86th edition, the density of tert-butanol is .7887 g/cm^3 at 20 degrees Celsius. The density listed on this page gives it as .8095 which is the same as n-butanol and is inaccurate. Is there a reason for this? Rhick 22:22, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • For the IUPAC name I don't think that it should be 2-Methyl 2-propanol. Shouldn't it be propan-2-ol at the end to signify from which carbon the OH group is coming off. On the page of isopropyl alcohol, the IUPAC name is given as Propan-2-ol, so the teriary alcohol should also follow suit. link BalazsH (talk) 12:30, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
