I think I'm correct in saying that Venables resigned from Leeds after being given promises that Jonathan Woodgate would not be sold - his departure came after Peter Ridsdale went back on his word. Somewhat different to the account on this page, which suggests he left because he couldn't handle the job!

Wrong - Venables was sacked after a dreadful run of results culminating in being knocked out of the FA Cup by 2nd Division Sheffield United - I've added a ref on the main page as well as rewriting the paragraph about Leeds - while there were mistakes on both sides, that was far too flattering towards Venables. That squad that he inherited, until the selling of Woodgate in January, was the same one that had qualified for the Champion's League in 2000, PLUS Robbie Fowler. (Ferdinand was bought after qualification and sold before Venables took charge). Given that, for the team to be 15th at Christmas must say something (as does the fact that as soon as Venables left, Reid took them on a good run which saved the club from relegation).

I have reverted a second time a reference to TV signing for St Patricks Athletic F.C. plus related edits to the info box As this reversion was referred to as vandalism by User talk:83.71.9.176 I have penned reasons here. Firstly this edit is factually incorrect, TV did not 'sign' for St Pats he guested on "one or two occasions" along with Gordon Banks during 'thin times' for the club. Secondly the link provided was to a subscription site which requires sign up to access so is not appropriate as a citation. Thirdly such a guest appearance or two is not a notable event for such a player / manager/ football personality who will have no doubt played many such appearances for good causes like this during his career. A quick referral to the club's official website history page here does not make any reference to his appearance as a player and elsewhere an unofficial history of the club here confirms the guest appearance in passing but elsewhere says "Perhaps the brightest star to play for St Pats was Paul McGrath." Firstly this edit IS correct and to say otherwise is patronising at the very least. You cannot guest in another country's league as you have to sign a league registration form. Venables and Banks' played in League games not friendlies and therefore were not guesting.

Secondly while the Irish Times is a subscription service its content is accurate and the link refers to the Venables' signing. Lastly just because the official club site does not mention the player does not mean he did not play for them.
