On 1-15-2008, This article was marked for deletion by Wizardman with the following justification:
College quarterback who never played a game in the NFL; no sources to prove any notability.
In response, I have added numerous sources and expanded the article to confirm and enhance its relevance. However, in addition I must make a few very important points:
First of all, any individual who was designated the starting quarterback for one of the most prestigious football programs in history is a priori a notable public figure worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. Just because one personally may not be a football fan, or may not particularly like the University of Notre Dame, is no excuse to go around disparaging the merit of such articles.
Second of all, to imply that only college quarterbacks who played in the NFL are worthy of mention is so absurd that I hardly feel it necessary to argue the point. We have Heisman Trophy winners who competed for National Championships as a college quarterback and never played one single down in an NFL game. (See: Charlie Ward, Eric Crouch, Jason White, etc.) Such an argument smacks of pro-sport elitism and ignores the enormous popularity of college athletics in the United States. -- Trowbridge (talk) 04:13, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
