Talk:Terrelle Pryor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The entire third paragraph is wrong and the PSU secret verbal stuff is obviously made up. Things are repeated multiple times. This article needs major work.

Terrelle Pryor might only be a high school athlete, but he receives heavy media attention. Check Google News. There has been an AfD-discussion on Arthur Brown in September 2007, and the result was to keep the article because of the media attention Brown receives. With Pryor it's no different. ––Bender235 (talk) 19:21, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- I agree; Pryor's recruitment is getting extensive coverage in the sports press, including repeated mention on the nationally broadcast TV network ESPN. While high school athletes should certainly normally be considered non-notable, I submit that Pryor should be an exception. -TheMile (talk) 19:23, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm the one who tagged CSD. I hadn't heard much in the way of media attention for him at the time of tagging. However, knowing that he *has* received it - and apparently decent amounts at that - I have no contention with the CSD having being removed. DJBullfish (talk) 19:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Schools in the running as of Jan 28
Hey, when I say that Pryor has dropped Florida, it's because in this article, he says: "I'd still say it's five schools -- Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, LSU and Penn State." This article is written by Pryor himself, so I think that trumps a Free Press blurb. -TheMile (talk) 01:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Can someone please check that Madison.com source? That's the only place I've seen anywhere that Pryor has cut his choices to Ohio State and Penn State. I have serious doubts about that information. Last I heard from credible sources, it's still down to Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Oregon with upcoming visits to both Penn State and Oregon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.58.92.252 (talk) 07:18, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, but haven't seen any citable sources to dispute it. TheMile (talk) 15:39, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- I added wording that toned down the authoritative presentation of the Madison.com source (added "According to Madison.com"...), which was promptly removed. The article, as reported, cannot be verified. I think the reference to the article should remain, but since there is no current way to verify it other than getting a statement from Terrelle Pryor on the subject, I feel the wikipedia mention should portray this without stating the claim as fact. I feel adding "According to Madison.com" is NPOV, in that it does not portray the claim as fact, nor throws doubt on the claim. It states the relevant facts while letting the reader decide. I don't want this to turn into an edit war, however, and would appreciate some feedback. Kylos h (talk) 20:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

- That's a much better article. It can be verified. Kylos h (talk) 20:56, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Will you guys accept [1] as a source? RC-0722 communicator/kills 21:21, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- If you check the article you linked, its source is the rivals.com article added by Grsz11. So, I think it's a little redundant. Kylos h (talk) 03:45, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oregon is still in the running
In the article it says Terrelle Pryor narrowed down his schools to UM, OSU, and Penn St., but he just said on ESPNU's coverage of National Signing Day that Oregon is very well in the running. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.6.117.183 (talk) 17:25, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- I can confirm this, but I haven't seen a citable article yet. -TheMile (talk) 17:51, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Detroit Free-Press: (…) Pryor confirmed he eliminated Oregon and informed the Ducks coaching staff of the decision. (…) --Bender235 (talk) 18:00, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] External Links
I don't see why Youtube links are encylopedia worthy. If anyone wants to see his highlights, they can just as easily go to Youtube and search for them on their own. Burner0718(Jibba Jabba!) 04:34, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- true. RC-0722 communicator/kills 15:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- So why do we need external links anyway? Anyone can go to Google and find himself his own links, right? Come on, guys. Of course we can link to those YouTube interviews. ––Bender235 (talk) 22:05, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- Not really. We're only supposed to link to official sites; not blog and video sharing sites. RC-0722 communicator/kills 22:26, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Recruting
Recruiting news should not be deleted as more is known. The section on his college recruitment is terrible, and should contain the past 2 years worth of information, including the fact that he committed to Pitt 2 years ago. Somebody needs to figure out this information and get it back in Grsz11 (talk) 04:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree; once Pryor commits, I think all the recruiting info should be removed barring a blurb mentioning the prominence of his recruitment and maybe that he once committed to Pitt. Recruiting info is so notoriously unreliable, especially from newspapers, that this article skirts the edges of notability as it is. TheMile (talk) 15:37, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- We update scores and game summaries before the games are over don't we? If we can do that then we should update this as well. RC-0722 communicator/kills 16:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's fine to add to it, but I don't think it should simply be replaced leaving us in the end with just "Terrelle Pryor committed to Ohio State." Grsz11 (talk) 19:49, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
He actually said, "I am going to the University of the Ohio State" because he is an idiot.
[edit] Sources
With a constant flow of false and speculative information, anything that is not sourced should be deleted. Deletion of sourced information (ie the article that says OSU and PSU) should not be deleted. Grsz11 (talk) 16:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. This page needs to be sime-protected again. RC-0722 communicator/kills 16:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- I just went IP and I could still edit it so you might want to get an admin to semi-protect it. Actually, I'll go ahead ask. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 22:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

- Ok, it's now semi for a week. BTW, Grsz11, I like your optimism about the outcome of his recruiting :D. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 23:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Psh, my ideal outcome would have been what he said two years ago (check my userpage). Grsz11 (talk) 03:28, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Verbal commitment
As far as I can tell, Pryor's commitment is only verbal, and as such should not be added to the infobox. There are two reasons for this: 1) players often renege on verbal commitments (though it seems unlikely in this case), 2) it's unofficial, and shouldn't be listed as such (for the same reason we don't list political candidates as official until it's... official). - I missed part of the telecast, but when I tuned in, he was signing a paper. I assumed this was the official commitment.24.95.33.170 (talk)
