[edit] Origins of the name of Senjak

  • I am interested to know what your inquiries into the origins of the name of the place Senjak have yielded – have you gotten a response from your friend? Additionally, it would be much appreciated if you could take some nice pictures of the place (of something significant, though – not just random housing): they would definitely beautify the article. Otherwise, I have had trouble finding such things on the Internet (there is a link in the Senjak article's external links section to a picture gallery, which is the only good source of pictures of it that I know of; though, somebody would need to contact the author of them for permission, as the website does not state that the use of them is allowed). —Freezing 07:20, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Hi, I've finally managed to find the info. Apparently, local peasants once used to store their hay ("seno" in Serbian) in one part of the Kalemegdan. The hey barns there were destroyed in a fire in 1857, and the peasants started using a municipal lot on a hill above the Sava river. The lot was used for storing hay for several years, so the lot and the surrounding area got the name Senjak (a bit hard to transfer to English, sort of like saying "a place with hay" in one word). I'll try to get some good photos as soon as I can, but if I don't get the time for it, I'll contact the owner of the site and see if I could use those.Tennotsukai 21:11, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
