[edit] Tags vs. Templates

Thanks for the guidance on maintenance templates. One more quick question related to your answer, would you consider a template as relating to maintenance, and tags for deletion? I think I may be using the wrong verbiage in my posts.

Thanks Threehundredthirtyseven (talk) 13:23, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for the confusion. It's really not a big deal, I was just looking for some verbiage clarification. In my initial request I asked about tagging a article, and was simply looking for a way to identify the page as having problems, not to delete it. Being new here, I think I mixed up tags and templates, and was just trying to work through the specifics. Thanks Threehundredthirtyseven (talk) 13:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, it's been done. See User:Globalecon/Global_Economics and User talk:Globalecon. Apparently the students aren't reading the giant banner I stuck up there. They're all loading them individually, which I suppose is at least one policy that's being followed. I'm almost tempted to add <blink> tags to the sucker. (That or stick a gold star by the one good essay, and frowny faces next to all the ones that have been deleted / are at AfD / have been redirected). --Bfigura (talk) 03:19, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No problem

I understand you are just stating your opinion. I just hate the tone of that page. It isn't what Wikipedia stands for. Look at the first discussion. RoyalBroil changed his opinion from Keep to Merge because of a lack of material to build a page that could stand on its own. I really would like to see the page merged and the sales stuff deleted, but that tag has been up there for weeks and nothing has been done about it. I don't have the power to merge it. If you want, I'll work with you to do it. Are you an admin with the power to do that, or do you have the connections to get it done? I'm not trying to annoy people, I'm just trying to get this page noticed. Otherwise its just going to stay the way it is for months longer. Thanks! -GoHuskies9904 (talk) 00:04, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:56, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] How to do non-admin closure on AfD debates

Hey there, I saw you and some other folks do non-admin closures on AfD debates. If I wanted to do conclude an AfD discussion with a non-admin closure, how would I go about doing that? Is there a template or code to do that? Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 17:38, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the info! Ecoleetage (talk) 20:31, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Hey, I did my first non-admin closure [1] - but I have a problem - the article you gave me on non-admin closure didn't say how to dispose of deleted articles. It only stated how to preserve articles that were marked for kept. How do I get rid of the speedily-deleted article? Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 18:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
  • I've seen non-admin closures as Delete votes -- I didn't know what happened after the closure itself. So I should just leave the article alone? Or did I goof up? Ecoleetage (talk) 18:37, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, my first Non-Admin Closure wasn't quite a success. Better luck next time, I guess. Thanks, again, for your input. Ecoleetage (talk) 18:46, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi TPH - the March 23 article is covered by a larger discussion that's been going on at Wikipedia talk:Centralized discussion/Removal of many individual date articles. Thought you might like to have a look at that before the AfD discussion goes any further. Grutness...wha? 02:09, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD oppinion

I nominated an article about a Tribbles/ Star Trek card game for deletion, based on a lack of notability (could only find a single source that qualified as non-trivial, the rest were ebay listings, blog entries or trivial mentions). Three people have implied that this AfD is completely off base, and notability is not the issue here. Wanted to know what you thought about it? Hihi...just wanted to let you know, all the stuff you SK'd today is from the same band that you said the stuff wasn't notable enough yesterday  :) I tried to prod per WP:Music but the fan author contested the prod...so no choice but to AfD the lot. [edit] Deleting my article OK

I've been away a while and only recently realized you nominated Jill King for deletion (and replacement) a few months ago. I don't mind, as looking at it, my article (on a local Chicago fine artist) was not particularly notable, whereas yours on the singer is more so. Artemis-Arethusa (talk) 14:43, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Ehrm, yeah I took it in stride. It was a reasonable edit. Are people really that touchy about these things? Artemis-Arethusa (talk) 17:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A Not So Silent Night

Hi. :) For the moment, I've redirected this to the artist as is suggested at MUSIC as it does seem a valid search term, even if the album isn't notable. If you really want it deleted, of course, there's no good reason not to, and I'll respect your wishes. I just wanted to suggest that maybe this would be equally okay and might make it less likely, if the album is really non-notable, that somebody will find it missing and create a new page. Your call. I don't mind your reverting my edit if you want it handled the other way. Hope all is well with you. Cheers! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:28, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

All right. It's gone. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:32, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Notsosilent.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Notsosilent.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:02, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Mumbo Token" article

I don't understand why the Mumbo Token article was deleted. I clearly put on the Talk Page for the article that I wrote the entire thing myself, and therefore it was not an infringement of copyright. [edit] RfA

Hey Tenpound... knowing your history and how well qualified I think you are for adminship, I thought I would drop you a quick note. I truly believe that you SHOULD be an admin, you've earned the tools. That being said, I strongly advise patience. Don't let somebody goad you into running again until at least 6 months after your last RfA. Get some distance and let others see that you can wait. If somebody offers it to you, politely turn them down. Wait until at least September, then consider it. [edit] Directive 80/181/EEC

You may recall me from the Foiba discussion. Do you know the exact method to propose this orphaned article Directive 80/181/EEC for deletion. The author Duncan Griffin--who is registered--hasn't made more than 2 contributions for Wikipedia (his second is a minor redirect) and the article has been orphaned for almost a year. The articles looks tedious and highly bureacratic. I don't think Wikipedia needs an article on every EEC bill. The problem is I have to place the Afd catalogue on the article and then notify Mr. Griffin. I don't know how to do the second step sadly. Can you suggest what to do here, please. Thank You. [edit] WP:HAU

Hello again. The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. I attempted to translate the data from the old version to the new, but with the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. Thanks again. Useight (talk) 04:29, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

It is kind of finicky, so if you go several minutes without editing, it'll say you're offline. If I'm not mistaken, the bot will check your contribs every 5 or 6 minutes and see if you made any edits within the last 15. If you have any sizeable gaps in your editing, it'll change you to offline. Just keep editing and check back to see if it changed you to "online." If it doesn't, let me know and I'll take a close look at your case. Right now I have to check on bibliomaniac15's and see why it's not working. If your doesn't change, you'll be second on the docker. [edit] AfD

Ohhh... crap. Fixing now if you haven't already.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 19:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I did mean well. I didn't know that the length of time a business has been around was grounds for notablity. I may have accidently tagged Dom's because it was in list, and I wasn't thinking clearly at the time. Back to the issue of notablity, besides being a large chain, is there anything else that does make it notable?— dαlusT@lk / Improve 22:32, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
First I shall say that regardless of whether they are owned by Safeway or not does not determine notablity, as it is not inherited. Secondly, looking over the secondary sources and the general structure of the article, it seemed the sources were just articles on the store's history; they didn't say why it was notable.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 22:37, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
