Tennessee Military Department

The Tennessee Military Department is an executive division within the Executive Branch of Tennessee State Government with four major commands.

The Tennessee Army National Guard, the Tennessee Air National Guard, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), and the Tennessee State Guard report to the Tennessee Military Department.

The department has over 500 state employees plus over 2,000 federal employees. The two Guard Units have over 17,000 officers and enlisted personnel with $150+ million dollar budget. The Adjutant General heads the Department and is appointed by the governor. Beside the four commands, the Bureau of War Records reports to the Adjutant General.[1]
