Tengu (天狗?) is a fictional character from the Dead or Alive video game series. He is based upon the Japanese tengu and serves as the boss of Dead or Alive 2.

Bankotsu (or Gohyakumine Bankotsu-bo) is a tengu who is a criminal in his own dimension, as he murdered Kuramasan Maouson - the leader of their race. Fearing punishment for his crimes and breaking Tengu rules, he escaped into the human world. Considering the hopes and struggles of humanity to be insignificant, he decided to bring about ultimate disaster and calamity, covering the world in chaos.
Tengu's mission nearly came to its fruition, until Ryu Hayabusa made it to the finals and defeated him. Ryu would later become the 2nd DOA Tournament winner.

Bankotsu is extremely arrogant, almost grievously so. He looks down on humans, as well as his own kind with contempt and thinks them fragile and trivial. Tengu is also fond of chaos and destruction, and is manipulative to a fault. He tricked his fellow tengu into allowing him close enough to murder their leader, as well as having a hold of sorts in connection with Ein's missing memories.
Ironically, because of his superiority complex, Tengu's defeat was quick and unceremonious.
[edit] Gameplay
In Dead or Alive 2, the first game he appears in, he has many powerful attacks, and is the only character to have a projectile attack in which he spontaneously creates a huge whirling gust of wind that sends the opponent flying.
Many of his attacks deal outrageous amounts of damage in comparison to the other fighter's attack damage. His throws and counter holds are extremely powerful, often cutting the opponent's health down to dangerous levels in a single throw.
He also possesses the ability to change the seasons at will, but only in his actual boss fight. The player cannot use this attack while controlling him.

Tengu is the only boss character who makes a return to the character roster in subsequent Dead or Alive games, after his original appearance (not including Dead or Alive Ultimate). He can be unlocked as a playable character in Dead or Alive 4, only after all the characters did Time Attack. He is not playable in story mode, however.
He is very hard to unlock for a reason, first he is fast and has much defence to himself and also is very strong. People who have used him in time attack have reported saying they have at least 90% of succeeding, even against Alpha-152.
