[edit] School information

The School is oversubscribed every year, and currently has a roll of around 1240 pupils.[2]

The school has seen outstanding GCSE and A-level results in the past,[3] and is heavily subscribed[4]. However, in its last Ofsted inspections it received a grade 3, which is average.[5] In recent years, at least 95% of students have achieved GCSE/GNVQs[6]

[edit] School history

Temple Moor High School (pre-Science College) was founded in 1956 as Temple Moor Grammar School, a status it retained until 1973. At its inception, the school was male-only. However, this was later abolished as the times changed, and is currently a mixed gender institution. The school became associated with notable local families, most credibly the DeLacy family, whom are recognized within the Temple Newsam area.

[edit] House system

The original houses (Manston, Scargill, Dunstan and DeLacy) all derived their names from local families.

The 2006-2007 term saw the reintroduction of a House System - as part of the 50 year anniversary - with the houses named after stars. The houses colours are on the tie of students from each house (except Sirius, who have a grey tie). The colours are names are:

House Colour
Rigel      Purple
Capella      Yellow
Sirius      Grey/White
Vega      Red

[edit] Feeder schools

As the largest and most popular high school in the area, Temple Moor has a constant income of children from many local primary schools, known as feeder schools. The School has strived to form close working relationships with these primary schools, most notably with Temple Newsam Halton Primary, which is conveniently located opposite the High School. The following schools are the more notable feeder schools for Temple Moor.

  • Temple Newsam Halton Primary School
  • Crossgates Primary School
  • Whitkirk Primary School
  • Colton Primary School
  • St. Peters Primary School
