[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities
I have proposed that this and all templates like this are part of the WikiProject for Cities. Please help me out on making this a great way to standardize these template and keep them out of the way of vandals. — NuclearVacuum 01:33, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Your attempts to have some kind of rule where all templates have exactly the same things for trival matters (2 images instead of 3, abbreviations instead of the full text, Tnavbar) in order to get your own way on Template:Russian cities, will not work, these are minor changes which do not affect the main format of the template. "Standardization" does not concern trivial matters (2 images instead of 3, abbreviations instead of the full text, Tnavbar), only the main format of the template has to be the same, which I support.--Miyokan (talk) 01:42, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- While the question regarding the number of images is difficult and open for discussion, I think I can help with the second problem - the abbreviations. In the United States and Canada, abbreviating state names is very common and in fact, official (e.g., New York - NY, Texas - TX, Ontario - On...etc.). The same cannot be said for Russia and Ukraine where English abbreviation is very unusual. It seems almost strange to make up abbreviations just for the sake of it. Therefore I believe the solution to this matter can be unique to every country. Regards, Bogdan що? 02:28, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- At Template talk:Mexican cities, User:Supaman89, the original creater of the template, which was subsequently copied by other users, agrees that there is no standardization and agrees with mine and Bogdan's position that "each template is independent" and that each templates can have its own changes - "I just don't think they all have to be identical as if it was Wikipedia's standard, if they wanna change colours in the Brazilian version or they wanna change the size in the American version is fine by me, it gives them freedom to improve it as much as they want".--Miyokan (talk) 05:07, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- There should be no attempt made to standardise these templates. The geographical makeup of each country is usually very different and therefore each template is unique. Also by standardise you mean you want them all to look how you want them to look and you seem very unwilling to accept that not everyone shares your views. Standardisation is not the way forward, unique discussion on each template is the only way to go. ┌Joshii┐└chat┘ 05:26, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
